JOB SUMMARY:
To assist the pharmacist(s) in storing, preparing, dispensing, reconciling and charging of all medications. To assist the pharmacist(s) in maintaining an adequate and accurate drug inventory as well quality control procedures. Pharmacy Technicians shall work under the direct supervision of a licensed registered pharmacist, and will only perform activities that comply with the State Board of Pharmacy practices. Accurately prepares medication orders for dispensing by the pharmacist by retrieving, counting, pouring, weighing, labeling and mixing medications. Enters patient and medication order information into the pharmacy system. Verifies prescription information and dosage. Processes and submits insurance claims. Processes new and refill prescriptions. Verifies the information on the prescription is complete and accurate. Assists patient and prescribers with the Prior Authorization process. Coordinates billing and obtains cost approval. Provides quality customer service to patients and other healthcare providers. Performs all tasks in a safe manner that is consistent with corporate policies as well as state and federal laws. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist(s) in storing, preparing, dispensing, reconciling and charging of all medications
- Assist the pharmacist(s) in maintaining an adequate and accurate drug inventory as well as quality control procedures
- Assist Pharmacy Technician Lead with managing and organizing pharmacy inventory, supplies, and ensuring drug product is within date
- Assist Pharmacy Technician Lead with maintaining purchasing invoice records by reviewing for accuracy and ensuring proper storage/filing and compliance with procedural requirement
- Accurately prepares medication orders for dispensing by the pharmacist by retrieving, counting, pouring, weighing, labeling and mixing medications.
- Accurately and efficiently enter patient and medication order information into pharmacy fill software for new and refill prescriptions
- Processes, submits and troubleshoots insurance claims
- Carry out medication compliance program by contacting patients and confirming refills needed as well as ensuring patient information is up-to-date and accurate
- Coordinates billing and obtains cost approval.
- Coordinates and troubleshoot shipping or other activities with third party vendors
- Follow appropriate documentation and communication procedures to ensure continuity of care
- Attend meetings as deemed appropriate by pharmacy management
- Provides quality customer service to patients and other healthcare providers, with focus on professional discretion and HIPAA regulations
- Serve as Spanish-speaking translator or direct language resource on behalf of pharmacy team when needed to facilitate safe, effective communication between PIHC and patient for all aspects of provision of pharmaceutical services
- Performs all tasks in a safe manner that is consistent with corporate policies as well as state and federal laws
- May be assigned additional tasks by pharmacy leadership to support daily operations or agency activities
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Written and verbal fluency in Spanish is required
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs)
- Comfortable with addressing insurance rejections and prescription claims processing
- High level of dedication to patient care and improving patient medication access
- Clear understanding of and the ability to comply with the GA BOP Rules and Regulations
- High level of attention to detail
- Able to adapt to change in workflow/ style
- Proficient computer skills, word processing, documentation, and navigation of the internet
- Excellent time management
- Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively
Minimum Qualifications
- Licensed pharmacy technician in good standing with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy
- 1-3-years of pharmacy technician experience
Preferred Qualifications or Experience
- At least 3-years of pharmacy technician experience in a retail setting
- Past experience with Pioneer Rx Fill Software
License/Licensure:
- Licensed pharmacy technician in good standing with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy
