Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations for our patients.
- Provide medication management using established guidelines.
- Prescribe medications and participate in treatment plans for a variety of psychiatric conditions.

What We’re Looking For:
- Medical Degree from an accredited medical school
- APN Psychiatry Certification
- New Jersey license in good standing to practice medicine
- Valid New Jersey certification to prescribe Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS).
- Valid registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
- Strong knowledge of general medicine, psychiatry, and current developments in mental health care.
- Experience in behavioral health and community health.
Job Description and Requirements:
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you must display excellent interpersonal skills in your interactions with patients and their families and with various medical and case management staff members. You must also have strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to function well under pressure. It is also important to your role as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner that you are self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and solidly dedicated to your work.
Under the collaboration of psychiatrist, perform diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and render varied medical services to provide comprehensive patient care within your scope of practice.
- Perform psychiatric evaluations and assessments, order and interpret diagnostic studies
- History and physical exams during intake and follow-up medication management.
- Prescribe medications as part of the patient’s treatment regime as allowed by license.
- Record and document data necessary to maintain and coordinate health care.
- Initiate referrals/consultations to other health care providers and/or consult with the supervising psychiatrist.
- Communicate the patient’s plan of care with appropriate disciplines.
- Individual and/or group therapy on a needed basis.
Collaboration:
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner you will work with other medical professionals to evaluate or change treatment plans. Additionally, you will conduct psychiatric evaluations of patients for the purpose of prescribing medication as part of the overall patient treatment plan. Your responsibilities would also include educating patients’ families about mental illness, treatment and prevention.
Your specific duties as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will include:
- Conducting initial psychiatric patient evaluations to determine medication needs
- Prescribing medication
- Meeting with patients on a monthly or bimonthly basis to monitor their progress and to make any necessary changes to their medication regimen
- Providing care which considers patients’ age-specific safety needs
- Documenting evaluations of and interactions with patients, including medication and treatment administered
- Completing clinical documentation to assist patients in acquiring and maintaining disability
· Recording all notes promptly in our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
