What are the responsibilities and job description for the AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION TEACHER (#44) position at Poteau High School?

Responsibilities:

 

  • The instructor will work with District officials and community representatives to develop the Agricultural Education Program. 
  • The agricultural education instructor will assist and supervises all students in developing a supervised 
    Agricultural Experience (SAE) 
  • In addition,  the instructor will serve as advisor of the local FFA chapter and promote FFA activities as an integral part of the agricultural eduction experience
  • The instructor will teach five classes per school day and be provided one hour of planning and one hour for supervision for students SAEs
  • Instructor will maintain an active advisory committee
  • The committee will officially meet at least once annually to discuss the direction of the program
  • Instructor will supervise student's SAEs through school based, work site, and/or home visits
  • Also, the instructor will provide feedback and direction to the student's SAE
  • The instructor will serve the educational needs of the students in grades 8-12 by providing the latest knowledge and skills associated with the area being taught
  • The instructor will also provide the opportunity for students to obtain a state recognized level of achievement 
  • The instructor will outline a summer calendar detailing FFA activities, judging contests, and/or livestock shows that he/she will be attending
  • The summer calendar should also include the instructor's scheduled vacation 
  • The instructor will maintain an active program during the summer 
  • The instructor will promote student attendance and provide transportation for students to attend FFA leadership activities, summer field days, and/or livestock events and shows
  • In addition, the instructor should work with the local community on projects or activities 
  • Also, the instructor will attend professional development 
  • The instructor will provide opportunities for students to participate and be active in the local FFA chapter
  • The instructor will submit all reports required by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education and FFA office in a timely manner
  • Teaches District Approved Curriculum
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Prepares for classes assigned
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishes clear objectives for all lesson unites, projects, and activities, and communicates these objectives to students
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Evaluates pupil's academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports as required
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Is aware of students' individual learning needs and provides appropriate accommodations and seeks the assistance of District specialists as required
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulations
  • Accessible to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day
  • Works well with both supervisors and other members of the team
  • Maintains consistent and punctual attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned by an administrator
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees, as required
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
