JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

POSITION TITLE:    Assistant Wrestling Coach

(Defined: The head coach of PHS junior varsity teams, 9th grade teams or Middle School teams)

 

REPORTS TO:   Athletic director and varsity head coach for coaching duties and principal for teaching duties.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The head coach shall work with the varsity head coach, athletic director, and the principals to insure a coordinated program.

 

MAJOR DUTIES:

 

     1.  Be familiar with the policies of the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association, (OSSAA) as set forth in the     

          OSSAA Handbook.

     2.  Hold pre-season meetings with coaches to discuss the philosophy of the program and inform them of their 

          responsibilities.

     3.  Assist the athletic director, varsity head coach, and principals in supervising and assigning duties to other coaches.

     4.  Assist athletic director and varsity head coach in coordinating athletic program in grades 6-12.

     5.  Submit all forms required by the OSSAA and Poteau Schools (eligibility roster, team roster, accident reports, etc.).

     6.  Plan, organize, and implement the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules, and techniques.

     7.  Teach sportsmanship and set an example of good moral and physical behavior.

     8.  See that facilities and equipment are maintained to insure a healthy and safe environment for activities and report       

         deficiencies and damage immediately to the director of athletics, varsity head coach, or principal.

     9.  Conduct staff meetings as necessary.

   10.  Assume responsibility for conduct and well-being of all team members.

   11.  Attend meetings as necessary.

   12.  Implement procedures for handling injury situations and institute the District Blood Borne Pathogen Policy and

         Procedures.

   13.  Attend coaches’ meetings and clinics for professional growth.

   14.  Work with director of athletics and other coaches to upgrade total athletic program.

   15.  Evaluate total program and make recommendations to the athletic director and varsity head coach.

   16.  Make necessary arrangements for issuing, collecting, taking inventory, and storing equipment.

   17.  Make necessary preparation for all practices.

   18.  Be available to counsel all participants in decision-making or daily problems. Encourage and guide.

   19.  Be responsible for public relations and the publicity of the activity through the athletic director.

   20.  Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship and assist visiting teams, coaches and officials.

   21.  Participate in the awards programs according to the school procedure.

   22.  Instruct participants in the need for reporting injuries to coaches immediately.

   23.  Supervise the preparation of playing areas and when needed take part in that preparation.

   24.  Make an effort to attend the sport contests at high school and middle school.

   25.  Attend to other duties assigned by the athletic director and principal.

 

EVALUATION:
