REPORTS TO: Athletic Director and Principal for teaching duties
NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION: We are looking for a highly motivated coach who wants to lead and develop our girls' basketball program. The head coach shall work with the athletic director and the principals to insure a coordinated program.
MAJOR DUTIES:
1. Be familiar with the policies of the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association, (OSSAA) as set forth in the OSSAA Handbook.
2. Hold pre-season meetings with coaches to discuss he philosophy of the program and inform them of their responsibilities.
3. Assist the athletic director and principal in supervising and assigning duties to other coaches.
4. Assist athletic director in coordinating athletic program in grades 6 -12.
5. Submit all forms required by the OSSAA and Poteau Schools (eligibility roster, team roster, accident reports, etc.).
6. Inform students of the insurance program available through Poteau Schools.
7. Plan, organize, and implement the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules, and techniques.
8. Teach sportsmanship and set an example of good moral and physical behavior.
9. See that facilities and equipment are maintained to insure a healthy and safe environment for activities and report
deficiencies and damage immediately to the director of athletics or principal.
10. Conduct staff meetings as necessary.
11. Assume responsibility for conduct and well-being of all team menbers.
12. Attend meetings as necessary.
13. Implement procedures for handling injury situations and institute the District Blood Borne Pathogen Policy and
Procedures.
14. Attend coaches' meetings and clinics for professional growth.
15. Work with director of athletics and other coaches to upgrade total athletic program.
16. Evaluate total program and make recommendations to the athletic director.
17. Make necessary arrangements for issuing, collecting, taking inventory, and storing equipment.
18. Make necessary preparation for all practices.
19. Be available to counsel all participants in decision-making or daily problems.
20. ve responsible for public relations and the publicity of the activity through the athletic director.
21. Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship and assist visiting teams, coaches and officials.
22. Participate in the awards programs according to the school procedure.
23. instruct participants in the need for reporting injuries to coaches immediately.
24. Supervise the preparation of playing areas and when needed take part in theat preparation.
25. Make an effort to attend the sport contests at high school and middle school.
26. Attend to other duties assigned by the athletic director and principal.
Evaluation:
The athletic director and principal will evaluate the head coach and report their findings to the superintendent based on
the criteria set for in this job description.
