SAFETY FACILITATOR - OLA, AR

Assist the Safety Manager in all activities associated with safety. Facilitate continuous improvement of safety processes in the mill (i.e. incident investigations, training, JSEA documents, LOTO procedures, safety audits, change analysis, etc.). Assist in developing and implementing procedures and activities that will control and reduce losses at the site. Maintain the safety records and ensure that data is accurately recorded and maintained across multiple databases and spreadsheets. Manage records and keep files accurately and prepare reports to executive levels of management as required. Engage in effective relationships with site personnel to promote a visible and pro-active approach to safety management. Position reports directly to Safety Manager.

The salary range for this position is $48,525.00 - $80,875.00.

The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.

Compliance

Key Activities:

  • Ensure safety compliance with necessary items/information to meet all federal, state, and local regulations and requirements.
  • Manage site’s contractors using ISN database.
  • Promote and support the SLAM (Stop, Look, Assess, Manage) process for assessing workplace hazards. Track and audit SLAM cards monthly as one of the sites leading indicators.
  • Track and maintain data through various spreadsheets, paper, and electronic documents of Work Authorizations, Lockout Removal forms, Safety Toolbox Moments, Operator Checklists, JSA Contractor forms, New and Young Worker forms, etc.
  • Promote and support the Hazard Recognition program assessing and reporting workplace hazards. Track data through a spreadsheet as well as data entry into a database with the ability to track the work orders to completion using multiple databases and processes.
  • Administer site’s monthly Random Drug Tests.
  • EOM reporting required for compliance of both site and OSHA.
  • Maintain accurate records and files

Training And Procedures

  • Conduct new hire and contractor safety training.
  • Utilize online computer-based training systems for OSHA required and various other types of training. Assign, monitor, track trainings and assist team members with basic computer questions.
  • Maintain records of all safety related trainings.

Behavioural Safety

  • Assist with and conduct various safety and environmental audits at the site monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, and annually. Track audit findings using spreadsheets and databases and maintain filing of documents.
  • Participate in monthly Safety Committee Meetings. Prepare documentation for each meeting to include a sign-in sheet, agenda, and summary reports for each department for review.
  • Promote Safety Awareness and expansion of knowledge among team members with clear and concise delivery of information. Maintain site’s Safety Bulletin boards and provide Safety information for the News Network.
  • Promote a positive safety culture where team members report workplace hazards and incidents. Develop a rapport with team members with positive engagement.

Investigation And Loss Control

  • Assist with incident investigation, review, and follow up process using the site’s Safety Packet. Track and report data using Industry Safe and prepare investigation report outs as necessary for upper management to include executive levels.
  • Assist with developing corrective action plans based on post-accident/incident data.

Operations

  • Be a Safety Role model. Must follow and promote all safety and environmental policies.
  • Must be able to communicate and present data to all levels of team members to include executive management levels.
  • Must have a flexible work schedule and hours as needed with some nights and weekends included.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Must have a good understanding of the safety processes of the site.
  • Must be able to work independently, use sound judgement, organize, and prioritize work and get items completed in a timely manner.
  • Capable of learning and understanding OSHA regulations. This position will require further education such as OSHA 10- & 30-hour training as well as various other trainings as required.
  • Must maintain confidentiality within the department of sensitive information.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in safety or related field required OR a minimum of three years of related experience required.
  • Possess knowledge of industrial safety practices and principles including OSHA regulations, environmental compliance and accident investigation knowledge and training.
  • Safety auditing experience with the ability to train all team members and complete audit procedures preferred.
  • Experience with managing Workers Compensation claims preferred.
  • Medical training and injury management experience preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access) required.
  • Advanced proficiency of databases required.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Detailed-oriented; proficiency for accuracy; dependable; team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn required.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to lead by example.
