Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) Instructor

Position Duties and Responsibilities :
- EMT Instructors shall provide relevant Course Instruction support in subject areas listed below. The curriculum will be provided by the Government. The desired result is to enable the Emergency Medical Technician Units to react more quickly and efficiently to emergency situations and in prolonged hospital care with encountered obstacles using the tools available in the performance measures. A minimum of two (2) certified instructors are required per class.
- Instructor is responsible for providing quality standardized instruction and testing for the US Air Force Medical Technician.
- Conduct instruction in a variety of environments; to include : classrooms, laboratories, or outdoors at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
- Instruction will include didactic and psychomotor training in an academic setting for basic EMT and limited primary care. Subjects presented include basic anatomy and physiology, cardiac life support, sanitation and first aid procedures, shock management, respiratory maintenance, hemorrhage control, emergency wound treatment, management of fractures, burns, and injuries from chemical agents, emergency medical treatment, basic nursing skills and advanced nursing skills.
- Use appropriate training aids including computer-based material and devices approved by the Program Director, AMSA and listed in the Plan of Instruction (POI) to execute and enhance training outcomes.
- Review current lesson plans with handbooks, study guides, and tests. Designs, prepares, and keeps other instructional aids including flip charts, viewgraphs, slides, etc. current.
- Use up-to-date knowledge of advanced medical subjects (standards of care) and EMT processes, practices, procedures that are pertinent and applied in the program of instruction.
- Use the most suitable and effective method of training, i.e.; lectures, performance demonstration or discussions, as prescribed by the lesson plan or material presented to achieve desired lesson objectives or outcomes.
- Follow and apply Student Evaluation and Administration Plan (SEAP) to assure processes are applied fairly to students during all course phases.
- Prepare records and provide student grade input for inclusion in student training records. Monitor, evaluate and counsel students on academic performance, non-academic behavior and prepare / maintain student records of training in accordance with applicable directives
- Instructors will provide recommendations and suggestions, assist in the development of instructional programs for 4N0X1 and EMT training programs to include writing, revising and / or proofreading lesson plans that typically deals with EMT, trauma treatment, primary care, medical evaluation, force protection, CBRN, trauma scenario development, war time skills, infection control, medical records, patient screening, pre and postoperative care, patient comfort and hygiene, patient movement, medication administration, fluid therapy, and nursing synthesis.
- All curriculum or training material must be staffed and approved by the Air Force, Career Field Manager and AMSA's Department Chair, Program Director, and Senior Enlisted Advisor before implemented. Instructor may be detailed as a subject matter experts (SME) to develop sustainment training products as an individual or panel member.
- Secures classroom space and announces upcoming classes. Ensures classroom training equipment is operational and supplies are available.
- Ensure quality training is provided to assigned personnel. Instructs new trainers on the fundamentals of curriculum development, instructional techniques, and effective job skills training including initial classroom orientation, and recurring training for trainers in selecting the most appropriate instructional method for the course being taught (lecture, instructional model, hands on experience, etc.).
- Review course plans / outlines, and adhere to course schedule to ensure all topics are covered on time. Produce or locate appropriate hand-out material, communicate the objectives of the course material, and ensure courses are evaluated upon completion.
- Makes certain that newly assigned trainers understand the fundamentals of establishing learning objectives, developing course outlines and lesson plans, etc.
- Participates in in-service refresher training sessions to learn latest processes, procedures, and practices as the course curriculum / POI evolves.
- Ensures refresher training methodologies selected will enable incumbent to apply best design and most effective instruction to students in; Basic Life Support (BLS), EMT, and basic and advanced nursing skills.
- Maintain and enforce standards of conduct, dress, and personal appearance specifically AFI 36-2903 : Dress and Personal Appearance of Air Force Personnel, AETCI 36-2909 : Recruiting, Education, Accessions, and Training Standards of Conduct, and AFI 36-2618 : The Enlisted Force Structure.
- Assigns and conducts orientation and continuing education training sessions for newly assigned instructors. Refresher training may include, but is not limited to, training methods and computer based training.
- Instructors will be subject to scheduled and no-notice evaluations. HCW instructors shall maintain a satisfactory or better rating on instructor evaluations.
