What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Software Engineer position at Potomac?
About the Role:
For the last couple of years, Potomac has been developing a new investment proposal and risk analysis software called “Guardrails”. The primary project of the Junior Software Developer would be to continue developing the application, working with internal stakeholders & contracted developers, develop new features, and to working towards overall app improvement/scalability.

Qualifications:
- Must live in the D.C. Metro area and be able to work onsite in Bethesda, MD.
- Minimum of 1-3 years developing web applications.
- Deep knowledge of programming languages.
- Tech Stack = React Python (Django or Flask or similar) AWS/GCP/etc. The more experience you have with these, the better.
- Must be familiar with both front & back-end design & development.
- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering/computer science, or relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the FinTech/Wealth Management Industry is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in full software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, test, and delivery.
- Develop proprietary web applications using a variety of technologies.
- Develop integrations with software partners, making use of modern API security practices.
- Applicants should demonstrate application architecture knowledge and practical experience in incrementally improving application design over time.
- Collaborate with internal teams & contracted external developers.
- Continually look for ways to improve & evolve our web applications/technologies.
- Mitigate bugs & roadblocks as quickly as possible.
- Manage stakeholders to deliver deployments precisely & efficiently.
