Maintenance Technician Education, Requirements and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, vocational certification or higher in electrical preferred
- Four Years of verifiable experience as a maintenance technician, preferably in an educational setting
- Previous experience needs to include HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, Building Construction, Commercial Electric, Budget Formatting and related business skills
- Possesses, and utilizes, advanced professional skills in electrical, plumbing, heating and ventilating, carpentry, mechanical maintenance and other general maintenance skills
- Experience working with multi-meter and other diagnostic tools
- Ability to read and utilize technical manuals and drawings as well as blueprints
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- General passion for creative problem-solving
- Interpersonal skills to interact with employees or residents of the building in a pleasant manner
- Collaborate with a team of workers and other professionals during renovations and facility expansions
- Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked
- Must possess enough physical stamina to handle a full (8) hour shift of being active and working throughout the district
- Must be able to routinely lift 70 lbs. or more

JOB GOAL:
To maintain the physical school plant in a safe, secure and usable manner so as to provide facilities for the proper fulfillment of the school’s educational mission.
Maintenance Technician Duties and Responsibilities:
A Maintenance Technician is responsible for keeping a facility operating and repairing any problems when they are discovered before they have a chance to worsen. A Maintenance Technician will usually be required to perform a wide range of repair tasks around a facility. Some other tasks a Maintenance Technician may be called upon to do include:
- Inspect, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring issues that may come up. Must have an advanced concept of electrical circuits
- Check control panels and electrical wiring to identify issues
- Maintain the building HVAC equipment in order to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly
- Inspect and troubleshoot various equipment and systems using multi-meter and other diagnostic tools
- Repair broken or leaking plumbing lines and fixtures to avoid water damage and restore to full use
- Troubleshoot and identify clogs or other drainage issues and be able to resolve these issues quickly
- Complete basic repairs around the buildings such as repairing broken locks, damage to walls, etc.
- Perform routine maintenance around the building such as fixing structural damage, for example, window, door or wall repair, painting, changing light bulbs, repairing broken locks, etc.
- Apply preventative measures to the building to reduce the risk of future problems
- Fix potential safety hazards to avoid injuries
- Perform necessary cleaning activities, such as dusting, mopping, trash removal, etc.
- Install necessary appliances and equipment as needed
- Test the functionality of the facility's safety systems
- Maintain grounds, including garden and yard upkeep, trimming, edging, mowing lawn, collecting trash, etc.
- Report to the Maintenance Director regarding issues resolved, those needing attention, and those currently in progress
- Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Board of Education or Superintendent of Schools
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BACKGROUND CHECK:
- Four years of Certificate of Completion of related trades; Residential or Commercial Electrical, Building Construction, HVAC preferred
- Valid Class E driver’s license with good driving record
- Successful candidate will be required to obtain CDL Class B driver’s license with school bus endorsement within 6 months of employment
- Must meet background check requirements to work in a public school system
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve months, with salary and work year established by the Board.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
