We are seeking a Copy Editor to be responsible for quality editing, proofing, tracking and trafficking of all copy materials. Ensures all copy is grammatically correct and well written, while using accurate product information, and adhering to established format/style.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Works with copywriter, merchandising and art directors via phone, e-mail, web based and direct meetings.
- Attends input meetings to gather necessary product information; takes notes and follows up on missing info and merch queries; passes info along to copywriter.
- Works with copywriter to address inconsistencies in style and text.
- Produces a style sheet, ensuring consistency and order of elements that make up a copy block, such as sizes, dimensions, etc.
- Checks merchandise or queries buyer to make sure all copy accurately describes items.
- Corrects errors in spelling, grammar, syntax and structure.
- Maintains an organized tracking system of pages; manages tracking and trafficking of copy from manuscript through color proofs.
- Checks Digital Blue Lines.
- Is mindful of the schedule, the budget, and other people’s time when proofing and tracking.
- Is available to assist other copy editors with proofing; is part of an editing team.
Requirements:
- BA in English with a minimum of 3 years experience in publishing.
- Proofing proficiency a must.
- Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized, self motivated, and detailed-oriented.
- Able to handle multiple projects, under tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy.
- Must be flexible and quickly adapt to changes while meeting demanding schedules.
