The mission of POTS is to be a loving community in the Bronx that nourishes the basic needs and hungers of all who come to its door. Helping low-income families and individuals since 1982, Part of the Solution (POTS) has grown to become a leading provider of emergency food, legal representation and social services in the Bronx. POTS’ unique “one-stop shop” model of interrelated programming has been designed to carry out its vision of helping low-income individuals and families move from crisis to stability and ultimately self-sufficiency. Last year, POTS’ work has touched the lives of more than 35,000 people, including over 9,000 children. POTS’ Food Pantry, operating since 1999, has provided hundreds of thousands of low-income Bronx residents millions of nutritionally-complete meals.
About the position
The Dignity & Wellness Associate helps oversee the efficient and orderly operation of the shower, mail, and haircut services at POTS while going the extra mile to connect clients to a diverse range of internal and external services they need.
Responsibilities:
- Commitment to POTS: Belief in the programs and mission of the organization. Motivated to achieve a desired goal and ability to plan, manage time effectively and work towards it proactively, going the extra mile if necessary. Will be comfortable being accountable for ambitious goals and understands the role of measurable data in achieving results.
- Direct Client Services: Provide direct service to clients seeking help in the mail, clothing, shower and haircut programs.
- Connecting clients to other services: Ensure that all clients are presented with connections to appropriate programs and services to assist with their journeys from crisis to stability and ultimately self-sufficiency.
- Program Operations: Help maintain the operation of services, monitor supplies and use of in-kind donations and development of program policy
- Organization-wide activities: Participate in the POTS leadership community to ensure that we are working in concert to move clients from crisis to stability in a safe and smoothly functioning environment
Required Skills
- Excellent customer service skills demonstrated through 1-3 years of experience
- Cultural competence and sensitivity to relate professionally with clients
- Conversational to fluent in Spanish
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- General facility with computers
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Commitment to the mission and vision of POTS
Preferred Skills
- Comfort with MS Office, especially Excel and Word
- Client interview or case management experience
