About POTS
Part of the Solution (POTS) is a 'one-stop shop' helping low-income individuals and families move from crisis to stability and, ultimately, self-sufficiency. POTS helps more than 35,000 people, including 9,000 children, annually. Currently, services include a Community Dining Room, a Food Pantry, Shower, Mail Facilities, Barbershop, Case Management, Legal Clinic and Mentoring Services.


About the position 
The Stability Mentor will assist POTS clients seeking a change in their life trajectory by providing assistance with setting short-term and long-term life goals, and providing mentorship support, counseling and resources to help clients achieve those goals. The Mentor will provide support to clients seeking a change in five key areas: housing, health, finances, education, and day-to-day needs.

•    Recruit and assess clients:  POTS is seeking to grow the program to between 50-75 ongoing clients. The Mentor will work with coworkers to recruit clients and then conduct an empathetic needs assessment with those clients for program.
•    Set goals and tasks with clients: The Mentor will use the intake and assessment process to help the client think about values and goals. This will be followed by goal and task setting with the client based on individual circumstance. 
•    Develop an ongoing mentorship: During regular meetings provide information, support, resources, role modeling and directed conversation to clients in the process of completing tasks and meeting goals. 
•    Participate in program evaluation and data management: Use database and other tools to track document all client outcomes and progress towards goals. 

Required Skills
•    Bachelor’s Degree
•    Commitment to POTS mission and values
•    2-3 years of experience in social work, counseling, mentoring, therapy, public health or related field
•    Ability to have complex conversations in Spanish
•    Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
•    Comfortable using and adapting to contemporary computer software
•    Willingness to be creative, flexible, compassionate, patient and persistent 

Preferred Skills
•    Knowledge of nonprofit network in the NYC metro area
•    Masters of Social Work or graduate work in a related field
