What are the responsibilities and job description for the Roadside Seasonal Worker position at Pottawattamie County?
Pottawattamie County Secondary Roads is announcing the hiring of Seasonal Roadside Workers.
This seasonal position will assist Secondary Roads staff in maintaining Pottawattamie County's Natural Resource and Roadside Program. Workers can expect to work on either the East or West end of Pottawattamie County.Mow county property and plant native vegetation.
Operate county vehicles and equipment including but not limited to; tractor and push mowers, spraying and seeding equipment, chain saws, chippers, power and hand tools.
Assist roadside employees with prescribed burns and brush control.
Perform general cleaning and maintenance of county vehicles, facilities, property and spraying equipment.
Works in a manner conducive to teamwork, with respect for the public, fellow employees and the safety of all.
Performs manual labor as directed.
Attend programs as directed by the county roadside manager regarding herbicide usage, licensing, continuing education, safety training and/or any other related topic.
Regular and punctual attendance at the assigned work location is an essential function.Knowledge and ability to operate assigned equipment in a safe manner according to traffic laws and regulations.
The character to ask questions and seek help when duties are unclear or appear unsafe.
Knowledge of and/or ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the proper operation and use of assigned vehicles, equipment, tools and materials.
Knowledge of and/or ability to learn various chemical agents used in the trade and the ability to use such in accordance with safety precautions and directions.
Ability to operate hand and power tools, mowing, seeding and spraying equipment in a safe and competent manner.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to read English and to follow a series of oral and written instructions and maps.
Ability to write English and accurately complete required records and reports.
Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors and the general public.

Must be at least 18 years of age.
CDL Preferred.Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license during the course of employment.
