What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Barista/Cashier position at Potters' Peak?
At Potters’ Peak, we’re not just slinging lattes—we’re serving up creativity. Our space is equal parts artisan coffeehouse and working pottery studio, and we’re looking for a reliable, upbeat Coffee Shop Lead to keep things flowing (pun intended). If you’ve got barista chops, leadership instincts, and a sense of humor when things get weird (because they will), you might be our person.
What You’ll Do:
- Step in when the team needs you most—covering shifts, jumping behind the bar, and keeping service smooth even when things get hectic.
- Help manage the weekly schedule and assist in finding shift coverage when folks are out.
- Be the go-to person for on-the-floor problem-solving. Whether it’s a machine meltdown, a misfired order, or a last-minute rush, you handle it with grace and caffeine.
- Prepare and serve delicious coffee, tea, and baked goods with consistency and care.
- Recommend drinks like a true coffee matchmaker.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming bar area.
- Ring up customers and keep the register accurate ( POS experience is a plus!).
- Support the team by setting a positive tone, leading by example, and being someone people genuinely like working with.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience in a café, coffee shop, or food service environment
- Someone with a very open schedule
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Confidence in handling customer needs, tricky situations, and the occasional 5-person deep line at 7:58 AM
- A working knowledge of coffee drinks and espresso machines (and a willingness to learn more)
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and think quickly
- Strong organizational skills for schedule coordination and team support
- Bonus points if you have a love of pottery or want to learn!
Perks of the Job:
- Competitive pay tips
- Flexible scheduling
- Growth opportunities (we’re growing!)
- Employee discounts on coffee and pottery classes
- A creative, inspiring workplace where you might just learn how to throw a pot in between pulling espresso shots
Sound like a fit?
If you’re passionate about coffee, great with people, and ready to lead with kindness, humor, and hustle—we’d love to meet you. Apply today and let’s build something great (and caffeinated) together.
