What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor - Pottery Wheel position at Pottery Camp?
Job Overview
Pottery Camp, a paint-your-own-pottery and art studio, is seeking a motivated ceramic instructor(s) with experience in wheel throwing and hand building. Candidates are expected to provide knowledgeable and supportive instruction to children, teens, and adults with varying levels of experience.
Instructors should be comfortable leading weekly classes, developing a curriculum focused on key ceramic skills and techniques. Instructors will also be responsible for demonstrating the proper use of tools, materials and equipment. Instructors will maintain the cleanliness and organization of the ceramic studio, distribute materials and supplies, and guide participants to have fun, while encouraging and promoting success.
Instructors may also perform back-up work for pottery, such as loading and firing kilns, equipment and studio maintenance. (Pay rate for these duties is lower than instructional rate and duties are on an at will basis.)
Staffing needs include daytime and evening classes, as well as some weekends and special events. In addition to classes, instructors may teach private lessons, wheel throwing parties, workshops and camps.
Candidates must live within a reasonable (~30 minute) drive from Clayton, NC. There is potential for an expanded role for candidates with skills and interest in teaching drawing, painting, and other forms of art. Position is part time, requiring more hours in the summer. Classes have some flexibility to be structured around instructor availability and desired schedule, but primarily based on customer needs.
Any interested candidate should reply with their resume and preferred number of hours and availability, pictures of their work or link to portfolio. Also, please tell us when and how you developed your wheel throwing skills and how many years of experience you have.
All applicants must:
- Have a warm, engaging, and positive personality

- Be self-motivated, good at multi-tasking, and able to handle a fast-paced environment with little supervision
- Like working with your hands and have great attention to detail
