Librarian II – Poughkeepsie Public Library District (Full-Time) - Search Extended: The Library District seeks qualified individuals for the position of Librarian II (Full-Time). This is a Teen Librarian position in the Youth Services Department.
Qualifications: Candidates must meet these minimum qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in librarianship from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department; and
- Two years of professional library experience subsequent to the M.L.S.; and
- Possession of a New York State Public Librarian’s professional certificate at the time of appointment, and to maintain position.
This is a provisional appointment. Permanent appointment is contingent upon being reachable on a competitive list established by Dutchess County Civil Service.
Typical Work Activities
- Performs varied and/or specialized professional library work in collection development, including acquisition, evaluation and selection, discarding, weeding and withdrawal of library materials;
- Recommends, plans, and implements new types of services based on patron needs;
- Provides reference and reader’s advisory services to library users;
- Develops and conducts programs;
- Does related work as required.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics: In addition to the above minimum qualifications, the Library District seeks an individual with the following attributes:
- A desire for civic engagement with the local community and interests and a passion to fulfill the Library District’s mission and vision;
- Leadership and a willingness to actively participate in the Library District’s management team;
- Previous experience in Youth Services and with teens is preferable.
Compensation: This is a Civil Service appointment represented by CSEA. Annual minimum salary is established through collective bargaining, which is currently $67,837. 35-hour work week. Standard leave package applies.
