**This position is 3 hours per day/5 days per week and 9.5 months per year**
Classified staff working in this job classification who hold a valid CA Teaching Credential will be placed at a step 6 on the salary range.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Principal, assist with the instruction and supervision of students in physical education activities; lead or participate in group activities and games.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assist and participate in teaching individual or team sports and other physical fitness activities; lead warm up or stretching activities. E

Emphasize appropriate safety practices; perform safety check on equipment and field area to assure the overall safety of students; order equipment as needed. E
Select and organize materials for student use in a variety of physical education activities. E
Observe and control behavior of students according to approved procedures; report progress regarding student performance and behavior. E
Perform a variety of clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials, preparing and maintaining records, charts and files; maintain assigned daily activity records. E
Administer basic first aid to injured students. E
Assist in planning and preparing program activities; administer and score physical fitness tests as required. E
Recognize various levels of physical capabilities of students. E
Perform related duties as assigned.

Passage of the PUSD examination for this classification and two years experience or training working with youth in an organized sport or recreational setting.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid certifications provided by American Heart Association, American Red Cross or District approved provider for First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED. Online certifications will be accepted from these vendors as long as a hands-on skills assessment is completed. Recertification to maintain current/valid status is a condition of employment.

Operate and maintain a variety of equipment used in games and physical education.
Supervise and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures.
Perform clerical duties such as preparing program materials, duplicating and maintaining routine records.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
