**This position is for Auto Tech housed at Mt.Carmel High School and is 8 hrs per week/ 9.5 months per year.**
**The eligibility list created from this recruitment will be active for six months.**
**Classified staff working in this job classification who possess a valid and current CA teaching credential, will be placed at Step 6 of the salary range designated for this classification.**BASIC FUNCTION
The job of Instructional Assistant - Vocational Education is done for the purposes of providing instructional support to individual or small groups of students enrolled in a designated vocational education program in a classroom or other learning environment; preparing classroom equipment and instructional materials; maintaining supplies and inventory; and providing record-keeping and clerical support to the teacher(s) and staff.This Job reports to Assigned Supervisor.
Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students enrolled in a designated vocational education program in a classroom or other learning environment; tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher. E

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AREAS:
AUTOMOTIVE
Experience in mechanical and automotive maintenance and repair environment.
Assist in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students in the use of welders, torches, grinders, hand tools, floor jacks, hoists, drill press, 20-ton press, porta powers, tubing, benders, spray equipment, all pneumatic tooling, and spray booth. Assist the instructor to supervise students in multiple learning stations and multiple facilities for safety and to prevent damage to equipment.
Experience
Job related experience is required in related area of assigned career technical subject education (automotive).
Education
Targeted, job related education with study in job-related area.
Equivalency
Possession of a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent
and one of the following:
1) completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education
2) possession of an associate's (or higher) degree
or 3) passing the District's local assessment that demonstrates the knowledge and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics at a level meeting state and federal requirements. Two years experience working with functions related to assigned vocational education program.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Student guidance principles and practices.
Basic college-level subject matter of an assigned vocational area.
Basic instructional methods and techniques.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Operation of a computer and assigned software.
Oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Modern office and classroom practices, procedures and equipment.
Record-keeping and filing techniques.
ABILITY TO:
Assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment.
Reinforce instruction to individual or small groups of students enrolled in a designated vocational education program as directed by the teacher.
Assist in the preparation of instructional materials.
Perform a variety of clerical duties related to classroom activities.
Monitor and report student progress regarding performance. Learn policies and objectives of assigned programs and activities.
Operate a variety of classroom and office equipment including a computer and assigned software.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Observe health and safety regulations.
Maintain records and files.
