JOB SUMMARY:
The Roller Skate Coach position is an integral part of the camper's experience, providing a dynamic platform that is unmatched. You will execute and support all aspects of the program, including overall curriculum and appropriate use of facilities. The goal is to ensure a high level of training and progression, making sure campers are engaged and participating in a responsible manner.
The Roller Skate Coach position will be responsible for the safety, vibe, and cleanliness of the Action Sports facilities around camp. Zone Coaches will be responsible for one (1) Action Sports facility per Zone Coach shift. Zone Coaches need to make sure campers are acting responsibly and respectfully to others and using the facility in a safe manner. They will be responsible for upholding energy within the park and for the cleanliness of the facility.
The Roller Skate Counselor will be in collaboration with coaching and is responsible for the safety, health, and well-being of all campers within assigned cabin throughout the day and from the time they return to the cabin for the evening to when campers are released to instruction the following morning. They will be responsible for assisting campers with any needs or challenges that arise during the week, referring to department leads as needed. This role provides you with the ability to connect with the campers outside of the park setting and enhance the overall experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Overall
- Work a maximum of 40 hours, including coaching, zone coaching, counseling and recreation activities as assigned
- Ensure campers are acting responsibly, respectfully and following all camp standards
- Other duties as assigned
- Coaching
- Responsible for leading a group of 7-10 campers daily through 2 (two) instruction sessions for 3.5 hours daily
- Evaluate camper skill levels and discuss progression comparisons while providing feedback for ongoing skill development
- Responsible for completing Progression Cards throughout the week for your instruction group of 7-10 campers
- Conduct daily reporting of incidents, accidents or rule violations to direct leadership
- Zone Coaching
- Safety - Make sure everyone is using the facility in a safe manner, and following proper skatepark etiquette
- Energy - Engaged, playing music, creating games, developing challenges and assisting campers with skill development
- Cleanliness - Sweeping, clearing facility of all debris and hazards, picking up trash, putting disregarded belongings into the Lost and Found
- Communicate with medical team effectively in event of an injury
- Counseling
- Assist campers in daily routine including chores, overall cabin/surrounding area cleanliness, travelling to program activities and meals
- Ensure each camper's individual needs are met regarding their overall "well-being" (health, safety and wellness)
- Counseling to include taking attendance with required night supervisor sign-off and enforcement of lights out
- Recreation
- Lead/Assist with Recreation Activities as scheduled
- Lead/Assist with Nightly Camp Get Togethers as scheduled
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
- Well-spoken and articulate over the phone, through written contact, and in person.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with moderate supervision, agile, and able to pivot quickly.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL SKILLS:
- Preferred 1 years of experience working with kids and/or teens
- Experience working in a camp environment is preferred
- High school degree or equivalent preferred
- Experience in action sports coaching preferred
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- /- 15 Campers (7-17 years old)
BASIC SCHEDULE/REQUIREMENTS:
- As a requirement of this position, pre-hire criminal history clearances are collected from the Pennsylvania State Police (PATCH) system, child abuse clearances are obtained through the Department of Public Welfare, and federal history is taken through FBI fingerprint screening.
- Physical Capabilities: bend, twist, push, pull, stand, lift 50 lbs.
- Preferred minimum 4 -week commitment within summer camp season.
