Position Summary:
The Senior PCB Layout Designer will be responsible for creating and refining layout designs for printed circuit boards (PCBs) and hybrid circuits. This individual will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure that designs meet all functional, manufacturability, and performance requirements. The Senior PCB Layout Designer will also mentor junior designers and contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes at DDC.
Key Position Accountabilities:
- PCB Layout Design & Development:
- Develop complete and accurate layout designs for printed circuit boards (PCBs) and hybrid circuits, considering manufacturability, performance, and reliability.
- Participate in engineering design reviews for assigned projects to ensure design integrity and alignment with project requirements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, process engineers, and project managers to ensure all design requirements are met for assigned projects.
- Review and analyze completed layout designs, making necessary modifications to optimize manufacturability, cost, performance, and reliability.
- Vendor & Supplier Coordination:
- Work with PDCs vendors and purchasing teams to ensure proper vendor design guidelines are incorporated and design elements are effectively transferred to suppliers.
- Inspect incoming design elements, such as solder screens, to ensure correctness and compatibility with design specifications.
- Documentation & Quality Assurance:
- Create detailed layout drawings, subassemblies, and related design elements.
- Review final documentation for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, ensuring all design suggestions are incorporated as appropriate.
- Mentorship & Team Development:
- Mentor junior designers to enhance their layout and design skills, contributing to the overall performance and quality of the design team.
- Ensure a high standard of design quality, performance, and collaboration within the team.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Design Updates & Changes:
- Update designs and/or drawings in accordance with Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to maintain accurate and current project documentation.
- Mechanical Design Assistance:
- Assist engineering personnel with the mechanical aspects of design when needed.
- Design Guidelines & Standards:
- Develop, maintain, and regularly update design guidelines and checklists to ensure consistent quality and uniformity across design projects.
- CAD Tool Management:
- Work with CAD vendors to ensure software tools are up-to-date with the latest patches and updates.
- Report and resolve CAD tool issues or bugs in collaboration with IT and CAD vendors.
- Database Security & Maintenance:
- Assist the Design Drafting Manager and IT department to ensure the security and integrity of DDCs electronic layout design database through proper access control and backup processes.
Job Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Associates degree in a technical discipline or equivalent technical training.
- 6-8 years of experience in PCB design, with a focus on both hybrid and printed circuit board (discrete) designs.
- Extensive experience with high-speed, high-density, multi-layer PCB designs.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in industry-standard PCB design tools and methodologies.
- In-depth knowledge of modern PCB design tools and software, with demonstrated experience using these tools for complex design projects.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve design issues related to high-speed and high-density circuit designs.
- Additional Skills & Characteristics:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to producing high-quality and manufacturable designs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with various PCB manufacturing technologies and processes.
- Familiarity with PDCs product lines or similar aerospace/defense-related products is a plus.
