Summary/objective: Dedicated and passionate Organizer to play a key role in building and growing a base of community members, executing strategic campaigns for social change, and advancing our organization’s mission. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to social justice, excellent communication skills, the ability to build relationships and engage diverse communities, and is persistent and self-reflective.
Essential functions:
- Build a base of community members in specified geographic location or specific constituency; build relationships with organizations, and community leaders to advance strategic goals of the organization.
- Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and events to educate, empower, and mobilize community members to take action.
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, activists, and grassroots organizations to strengthen coalitions and partnerships.
- Identify and develop community leaders and volunteers, providing training, support, and opportunities for leadership development.
- Lead grassroots advocacy campaigns and initiatives to address social, economic, and environmental injustices and promote positive change.
- Coordinate with other departments within the organization to integrate organizing efforts with broader initiatives and programs.
- Assist with the development and implementation of organizing strategies, tactics, and messaging to achieve campaign goals.
- Mobilize community members to participate in civic engagement activities, such as voter registration, voter education, and advocacy.
- Track and evaluate organizing activities, outcomes, and impact and prepare reports for internal and external leaders.
Qualifications
Core Competencies:
- Required education and experience: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., community organizing, social work, political science) preferred; relevant experience may be substituted for education.
- Strong commitment to social justice, equity, and community empowerment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse leaders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
- Track and evaluate organizing activities, outcomes, and impact, and prepare reports for internal and external leaders.
Physical Requirements:
- Supervisory responsibilities: N/A
- Work environment: Hybrid with 85% remote, and 15% attending meetings
- Physical demands: 80% sedentary, 3% pushing, 3% lifting and 3% pulling
- Travel required: As needed
