Internship Overview

• Duration: 6 months (maximum 32 hours/week)

• Location: 5000 Vasquez Blvd, Denver, CO 80216

• Eligibility: Enrolled students or recent graduates of a heavy equipment or diesel technology program.

• Pay: Up to $23.50 per hour

Internship Responsibilities

Interns Under 18 (Non-Operational Role)

1. Shop Support & Maintenance

   • Assist with shop cleanliness & organization.

   • Perform tool inventory checks & storage.

   • Help restock fluids, lubricants, and parts.

   • Dispose of materials under supervision.

2. Preventative Maintenance Assistance

   • Observe technicians performing inspections.

   • Assist in checking/replacing filters, belts, and hoses.

   • Help with lubrication services.

3. Parts & Inventory Management

   • Learn the parts inventory system.

   • Assist in identifying and organizing parts.

4. Diagnostic & Repair Support

   • Observe electronic diagnostics & data retrieval.

   • Assist in documentation & work order note-taking.

5. Safety & Compliance Training

   • Participate in OSHA safety training.

   • Assist in maintaining safety checklists.

6. Customer & Service Support

   • Observe customer interactions.

   • Assist in reviewing service manuals.

Interns Over 18 (Limited Equipment Operation Allowed)

1. Shop Support & Maintenance

   • Assist with shop organization & cleanliness.

   • Restock fluids, lubricants, and parts.

   • Set up workstations for technicians.

2. Preventative Maintenance & Inspections

   • Assist in checking/replacing filters, belts, and hoses.

   • Perform fluid checks & lubrication services.

3. Parts & Inventory Management

   • Operate parts inventory system.

   • Track parts usage in work orders.

4. Diagnostic & Repair Assistance

   • Use electronic diagnostic tools under supervision.

   • Assist with component teardown and reassembly.

5. Limited Equipment Operation (Under Supervision)

   • Move small equipment within the yard.

   • Assist in machine startup/shutdown procedures.

6. Safety & Compliance Training

   • Attend OSHA training.

   • Learn lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.

7. Customer & Service Support

   • Assist in documenting customer equipment issues.

   • Help review and prepare service manuals.

Qualifications

Legal Compliance (Colorado Youth Employment Act)

• Minimum Age:

  • Under 14 years old: Not permitted, except in limited roles.

  • 18 required for roles involving hazardous tasks (e.g., operating heavy equipment).

• Working Hours for Minors:

  • Under 16 years old: Restricted hours on school days.

  • 16 & 17-year-olds: No state-imposed work hour limits, but federal law prohibits work interfering with school.

⚠️ Interns under 18 will not operate heavy machinery per state and federal safety regulations.
