Join our team of full time and part time team members at the New London Community Recreation Center, a new 57,000 square foot facility managed by Power Wellness. We specialize in managing state-of-the-art fitness and recreation centers for municipalities, hospitals, community colleges and foundations nationwide. Our 2,100 team members in 14 states are committed to excellence in fitness, wellness and recreation services that prioritize youth, family and senior programming.The Center Director provides leadership to the entire fitness center team and collaborates with on-site New London Parks & Recreation staff. The Center Director will be accountable for pre-opening staffing, outreach, and sales and for on-going fitness and event operations. The Center Director, with support from the on-site and home office team, will achieve the City of New London’s strategic goals (1) hire local professionals, (2) collaborate with Parks & Recreation, (3) prioritize youth programs, and (4) accelerate profitability.Essential Duties and Responsibilities : 1.Train and direct all staff to assure consistent provision of services and care with home office support, and collaboration.2.Ensure compliance with all Power Wellness and City of New London policies and procedures to maximize operational efficiencies and minimize potential risks.3.Work together with Employee Success to ensure proper staffing requirements and compliance with HR policies and procedures.4.Oversee all employee disciplinary and termination processes in consultation with the Employee Success department and following proper state and federal labor and employment laws.5.Help develop and actively manage the operating and capital budgets, with support from home office center accounting professionals.6.Promote the Recreation Center’s services with local employers, hospitals, colleges and other institutions.7.Collaborate with the Recreation Director to develop a unified center calendar, optimizing space utilization and providing the community with fitness and wellness activities.8.Manage on-site facility event rentals (pool, gymnasium, multipurpose room), including staffing, coordination, clean up, compliance with agreements, waivers and certificates of liability insurance.9.Help prepare all monthly, quarterly and / or annual client reports and review with client, including occasional City Council presentations.10.Help implement local public relations and marketing plans developed by the home office Marketing Dept and direct on-site sales professionals to achieve membership volume goals.11.Implement an effective member engagement program to maximize use and realize “excellent” Net Promoter Score results.12.Assist in the development of emergency response and building safety policies including ongoing training and drills.13.Administer select medically integrated fitness programs in coordination with theWellness Department, supporting local needs.14.Represent the Recreation Center with involvement and attendance at off-site community events such chamber organizations, health fairs, service clubs and corporate events with the intent of promoting event rentals and selling memberships.15.Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate fitness center hours, staff schedules and event requirements.16.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, exercise science, management and / or business studies required. Master's degree preferred.
  • New London residency strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a management position.
  • Bilingual strongly preferred (Fluent in English and Spanish).
  • Experience in recreation center staffing, operations, programming, budgeting, customer service preferred.
  • Proven team leadership creating a culture of proactive service.
  • Manage multiple departments with organizational skill, efficiency, and goal attainment.
  • CPR / AED certification required within 90 days of hire (provided by Power Wellness).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with staff, members, guests and partners.
  • Controlled and professional demeanor in all encounters as a brand representative of the City of New London.
  • Sound business judgement without supervision of human resources and administrative matters of significance.
  • Excellent sales and presentation skills.Physical Demands and Work Environment :

  • Ability to physically and verbally interact with members and staff.
  • Ability to lift or carry up to thirty (30) pounds.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to manipulate objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear, and see.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Ability to be flexible to work evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
  • The indoor environment provides a safe and healthy work environment and is smoke—and drug-free.
  • Occasionally, it may be wet, humid, and moderately loud.
  • Ability to function under inside environmental conditions.
