About the Role - Provides management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts, preparing financial statements and completing journal entries during month-end close. Maintains tax registrations, sales/use/excise tax returns filed timely, and provides tax information so that Astec can maintain a competitive edge. Completes daily invoicing as well as providing support to other areas in accounting when needed.
Responsibilities -
- Provide financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.
- Maintain documents for accounts payable, purchasing, and treasury and conducting internal audits.
- Develop accounting procedures by reviewing new procedures.
- Provide support for all A/R: Invoicing - Debits and Credit Memos - Service Billings
- Provide support for A/P: Filing - Matching Vouchers
- Research and interpret data to resolve accounting and financial questions.
- SOX testing.
- 1099’s Preparing & Submitting to Vendors & IRS
Key Activities & Responsibilities -
- Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
- Maintains and balances an automated consolidation system by inputting data; scheduling required jobs; verifying data.
- Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports, verifying information.
- Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files, reconciling accounts.
- Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements; reconciling accounts.
- Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures, recommending changes.
- Answer’s accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
- Inputs new business from log, releases, cancellations, commitments, and shipments in preparation for business and backlog reports.
- Prepares business and backlog reports showing the various categories of new business and cancellations. Also prepares the backlog report showing beginning backlogs, new business, releases, cancellations, shipments, and ending backlog. Accountant will find and review processes amongst discrepancies between Syteline and Excel reports.
- Backlog Recon, Analysis & Reporting
- Prepares and files all sales/use/excise tax returns within required state deadlines
- Provides support for all A/R & A/P functions as needed.
- Actively support Astec’s core values, mission statement and vision statement.
- Assume other special activities and responsibilities as directed
Qualifications -
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S) from an accredited University or College
- (3) to (5) years of accounting experience
- An equivalent of relevant education and experience may be considered
Required Skills -
- Strong understanding of accounting principles & general ledger transaction recording and reconciliation.
- Detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated.
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
