SUMMARY

PowerPlay NYC is a nonprofit organization with a mission to advance the lives of girls through sports, helping them grow physically, emotionally, and academically. PowerPlay offers sports-based after-school and summer programs for 1,100 youth (ages 5-18). Over 90% of our participants are girls of color (predominantly Black and Latinx), and most reside in low-income neighborhoods in the five boroughs of NYC. Our programs provide a safe space for our girls, assist in boosting their self-confidence, and foster a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned

Research volunteer management best practices, systems, and resources

Work with the program managers and fundraisers to decide how many volunteers will be needed annually

Maintain a calendar/timeline of events (program start and end dates, annual tournaments, fundraisers (the annual Gala and the annual Golf, Tennis & Pickleball Tournament, sports clinic, etc).

Manage PinWheel applications and create a starter guide.

Assist managers with how the volunteers will be scheduled

Update position descriptions for each volunteer opportunity

Update the volunteer handbook that must be signed by all volunteers

Research soft and hard volunteer and alumni files in the PowerPlay office, in the storage facility, and on Google Drive

Build a strong culture (encourage feedback and participation, highlight successes and achievements).

If needed, assist in training volunteers (develop an orientation program, schedule orientation, develop materials, conduct orientation, and train volunteers).

Assisting in creating engaging volunteer events (i.e., reunions, happy hours, and sports events) to attract and retain volunteers.

Send follow-up emails on the volunteer application process (regarding background checks, etc).

Create a transition document that details all aspects of the project, including outstanding assignments, main points of contact, and potential next steps to move the project forward
QUALIFICATIONS

Previous work experience

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's/Associate's Degree at a university/college

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Detail-oriented and highly organized

PREFERRED SKILLS

Experience working with volunteers or teaching/group facilitation experience
COMPUTER SKILLS

WORK ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION

2 days in person, 1 day remote (8 hours each day)

Must be able to come in person to our office located at 48 Wall Street, New York, NY 10005
BENEFITS

$1,800 stipend to be paid at the end of the employment period
