Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services, is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the activities of technical personnel engaged in activities designed to provide sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment and instruments necessary for patient use.
Job Responsibilities
- Monitors the decontamination, processing, sterilization, storage, and distribution of instruments and other sterilized materials. Ensures that aseptic techniques are employed by personnel when preparing and handling sterile supplies (both reusable and disposable).
- Develops and ensures adherence to a system of rotating sterilized instruments and checking integrity of packaging. Initiates procedure for product recalls in the operating room.
Education/Experience
- Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of two years of technical training as a Central Service Technician and certification from an accredited Central Service Technician Program or equivalent training and experience.
- Two to three years of experience in order to:
- Acquire a thorough knowledge of septic and sterile, techniques and procedures.
- Acquire a thorough knowledge of sterilization, preparation, and distribution systems.
- Acquire basic mechanical knowledge of unit equipment.
- Develop a thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and standards related to unit responsibilities.
- Develop appropriate analytical, interpersonal, and supervisory/managerial skills.
