Summary :

The Materials Manager is responsible for operations and tasks in materials management (raw, in-process, and finished goods), inventory maintenance (locations and markings), cycle counting (quantities and accuracy), work order parts fulfillment (part picking and kitting), and production replenishment.This position supervises full-time and part-time staff to ensure the facilities have adequate and timely flow of materials to support production, testing, and on-time shipments to customers.

Essential Functions :

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Coordinate the pulling of parts for functional areas and issuing materials to jobs
  • Implement standards for how materials are moved internally to production areas and externally from vendors and / or suppliers
  • Control inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling data with systems
  • Design inventory locations (racking, floor space, and kitting) that are lean and visual
  • Manage the overall stocking of inventory. Create and monitor jobs to replenish stock inventory by working with Purchasing. Planning, and Production Scheduling. Monitor inventory turns and target obsolete / dead inventory on production and Service parts
  • Partner with shipping and receiving (S&R) functions and oversee the storage of purchased parts and finished goods. Coordinate several projects simultaneously (logistics background is preferred)
  • Create cycle counting plan for stock inventory, and maintain the process
  • Oversee part picking materials and components, using a flexible workforce, and resolve shortages, misplaced, and mislabeled materials
  • Hire, train and develop hourly and salaried staff. Act as a change agent leader to drive supply chain improvements through process, standardization, and clear roles & responsibilities in the team,
  • Develop and maintain departmental training procedures to ensure safety and quality in an atmosphere of continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a proactive liaison with other departments to assist with resolving issues relating to materials, kitting, part picking, and order accuracy
  • Work closely with P&OS in purchased material receipts and stock inventory levels
  • Lead / attend regular L10 meetings, and interface with Purchasing, Planning & Production Scheduling
  • Own the Warehouse and S&R budget
  • Update and maintain all processes, work instructions, and forms pertaining to department
  • Responsible for staging of production materials and accurate transacting of usage through assigned team members
  • Interpret production output to verify proper routing workflow is in place to satisfy production requirements
  • Develop and implement proper metrics to enable performance monitoring and continuous improvement. This includes inventory, delivery performance (internal and external), cycle time, warranty, margins, and schedule adherence
  • Act as point of contact to coordinate material availability issues with production. Provide regularly scheduled updates of material availability to manufacturing and management.

Education and Experience Requirements :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years' experience with materials management.
  • Lean Manufacturing concepts of : visual management, JIT inventory, line-side replenishment, Kanban, and visual controls.
  • The role will require you to lift and move up to 75 pounds on occasion (25 pounds more frequently).
  • Preferred Skills :

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 years in a Manufacturing environment
  • APICS, Lean, and / or Six Sigma training and experience
  • Forklift certified
  • Crane Operation certified
  • OSHA-10 Certification
