Powerwell is a leading recruitment firm helping our clients discover top talent. We’re recruiting for a Metallurgist. The candidate selected for this role will have the option to be based out of one of the following locations: Beachwood, OH; Coldwater, MI; Wabash, IN; or Chicago Heights, IL. The selected candidate will be required to travel a minimum of 25-30% to support plant and customer needs.
Responsibilities:
As our Metallurgist, you will be a key player in driving successful recycling technologies for our client. Your experience in continuous improvement and quality systems along with your metallurgy degree could make you the ideal candidate.
- Be the Metallurgy Technology Expert on all technical subject areas of aluminum metallurgy plus aluminum recycling.
- Initiate, develop, and implement new technologies for application to our recycling and melting processes.
- Lead and support plant and corporate cross-functional teams to identify and solve production issues plus address customer inquiries.
- Analyze existing and potential processes with mass balance, thermal, kinetic and laboratory evaluation tools.
- Assist in plant problem solving.
- Mentor and train newer employees, both professional and plant floor. Develop and deliver training programs as needed.
- Assist Commercial group in assessing potential options and providing customer technical support.
- Knowledge of the following technical areas is desired:
- Rotary Furnace Operation
- Burner Technology
- Environmental Testing
- Reverb Furnace Operation
- Salt Flux Usage and Properties
- Candidate is expected to develop and maintain technical contacts to outside organizations like Universities, National Laboratories, research organizations, the Aluminum Association, and technical thought leaders.

Qualifications:
- Degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering or potentially related discipline, or advanced degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Manufacturing environment.
- Travel as required (minimum 25-30%).
- Experience with metallurgical and/or chemical process systems for industrial manufacturing with a preference going to high temperature systems.
- Ability to become an Aluminum Recycling Process expert including the processing of scraps and drosses.
- Strong Process Improvement background preferred including process and economic analysis.
- Proven ability to function with minimal supervision while also leading others toward project goals.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills and organizational skills. Must be able to prepare and deliver presentations regarding project results as well as the ability to work with operators on the production floor.
