Summary
The Reading Coach will have a passion for literacy education, the ability to work with students at various reading levels, and a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment. The Reading Coach coordinates the school’s efforts to improve the reading and writing skills of all students through direct instruction of students, coaching teachers, and consultation with the English Instructional Specialist. The Reading Coach will design and implement instructional strategies that support student success, including personalized reading plans, group instruction, and individual assessments. This person will collaborate with classroom teachers and other reading coaches to support students' literacy development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and share knowledge of current literacy research and strategies with administrators and teachers.
- Teach reading and literacy skills to students in small groups or one-on-one settings, focusing on developing phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.
- Design and adapt lesson plans based on students' individual needs, using evidence-based strategies and materials.
- Regularly support classroom teachers in assessing students’ reading abilities and track progress using diagnostic tools.
- Provide feedback to students, parents, and other educators about reading proficiency.
- Support teachers with differentiated instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Support teachers in weekly lesson planning and PLCs.
- Attend professional development workshops and stay up-to-date with best practices in literacy education.
- Provide professional development at the school and division level.
- Partner with the administrator to disaggregate student performance data and participate in data-based instructional decision making.
- Consult with classroom teachers to support the reading progress of students.
- Attend child study and eligibility meetings as needed.
- Manage and facilitate intervention as part of the school level team.
- Maintain instructional assessment kits and other materials used with intervention students.
- Be familiar with all Standards of Learning for English/Reading in grades K-5.
- Review student data and teacher feedback to adjust instructional pacing and curriculum use.
- Collaborate with English Language Coordinator, Special Education teachers, and Gifted Resource Teachers to support students’ reading growth as needed.
- Help parents build capacity for literacy support at home.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the superintendent, or designee.

Education and/or Experience
Postgraduate Professional License
Master’s degree in Education with a Reading Specialist endorsement.
Minimum of three years successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of reading was an important responsibility.
Language Skills
Ability to:
