Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington is seeking enthusiastic and qualified individuals to serve as activity specialists at our day camp for children with cancer and their siblings located in Northern Virginia. A perfect summer job for teachers and future teachers, the role of specialist is ideal for those who love to plan fun activities for children to learn and play during the camp day. We are looking to fill several positions for summer 2025, including (but not limited to)
- Science/STEM
- Dance
- Drama
- Writing/Storytelling
- Yoga
Part time and full time positions are available. Serious applicants must be able to provide proof of qualification (for example coursework in specialty area, letters of reference, or teaching licenses) and must be able to independently plan and implement activities.
Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington is a program of the Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia and a member of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings world-wide. This mission is achieved through the creation and oversight of welcoming, inclusive Summer Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, all offered free of charge. Ideal applicants will have a passion for our mission and help ensure the variety and excitement for our camp program. Qualifications:
- At least 21 years of age
- 3 years experience with children
- Creative and energetic
- Excellent time management and planning
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Experience working with children with special needs
- Knowledge of summer camp
- Experience managing multiple problems/situations at once
- Commitment to working collaboratively with others
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs of campers
- Possess a good sense of humor, a passion for working with children, and knowledge and experience in working with children with unique physical and social-emotional needs
Essential Position Duties:
- Plan and implement activities for children ranging in age from 3.5-16 years old
- Adapt all activities so that all campers can actively participate
- Collaborate with Assistant director on special events at camp
- Work with Unit Head and counselor staff to best meet the needs of their specific campers
- Maintain the attention of children at summer camp during their time at the specialist activity.
- Communicate regularly with Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director
