Summer Camp Specialist---Music

Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified individual to serve as a Music Specialist at our day camp located in Northern Virginia. An ideal music specialist would be knowledgeable of camp and sing-a-long songs and eager to share their knowledge with our campers. We want them singing everywhere they go, and a great music specialist will help us to do that! A full time specialist is ideal, but we are able to accommodate flexible scheduling for exceptional candidates.

Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington is a program of the Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia and a member of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings world-wide. This mission is achieved through the creation and oversight of welcoming, inclusive Summer Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, all offered free of charge. Ideal applicants will have a passion for our mission and help ensure the variety and excitement for our camp program. This unique opportunity offers an incredibly rewarding summer spent helping to bring joy to children with cancer and their siblings.

Qualifications:

• At least 21 years of age
• 3 years experience with children
• Plays a musical instrument (guitar or keyboard preferred)
• Excellent time management and planning
• Love of theme activities
• Exceptional interpersonal skills
• Experience working with children with special needs
• Knowledge of summer camp
• Experience managing multiple problems/situations at once
• Commitment to working collaboratively with others
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs of campers
• Possess a good sense of humor, a passion for working with children, and knowledge and experience in working with children with unique physical and social-emotional needs

Essential Position Duties:

• Plan and implement activities for children ranging in age from 3.5-16 years old
• Collaborate with Assistant director on special events at camp
• Maintain the attention of children at summer camp during their time at the specialist activity.
• Lead songs at lunch time and other full camp gatherings
• Communicate regularly with Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director
