Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified individual to serve as a Sports and games Specialist at our day camp for children with cancer and their siblings located in Northern Virginia. We are looking for an individual who is committed to making sports accessible to all campers, regardless of physical ability. A love of sports is important in this position, but also creativity, compassion, and energy to bring a sports and outside games program to our campers, ages 3.5-16. Ideal candidates will enjoy working with children, be excited about planning themed physical activity, and possess an ability to independently plan programs.
Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington is a program of the Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia and a member of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings world-wide. This mission is achieved through the creation and oversight of welcoming, inclusive Summer Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, all offered free of charge. Ideal applicants will have a passion for our mission and help ensure the variety and excitement for our camp program. Qualifications:
- At least 21 years of age
- 3 years experience with children
- Creative and energetic
- Excellent time management and planning
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Experience working with children with special needs
- Knowledge of summer camp
- Experience managing multiple problems/situations at once
- Commitment to working collaboratively with others
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs of campers
- Possess a good sense of humor, a passion for working with children, and knowledge and experience in working with children with unique physical and social-emotional needs
Essential Position Duties:
- Plan and implement activities for children ranging in age from 3.5-16 years old
- Adapt all sports activities so that "no one is ever just the cheerleader, or score keeper"
- Collaborate with Assistant director on special events at camp
- Work with Unit Head and counselor staff to best meet the needs of their specific campers
- Maintain the attention of children at summer camp during their time at the specialist activity.
- Maintain sports equipment needed for specialty and as needed by other staff members
- Communicate regularly with Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director
