Position Summary :
Associates in the Ink Technician position are responsible for Providing Correctly Mixed Inks for use on Wide-Web Flexographic Printing Presses to produce quality flexible packaging materials on time in accordance with specific work instructions and applicable safety and quality assurance procedures. In the event of absence, these job responsibilities will be covered by the employee in the “Senior Ink Technician” position.
Responsibilities and Duties :

Your Supervisor / Manager may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this description. Likewise, this description will be revised when required to meet current business needs.
- Checks all tools and equipment at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure good housekeeping is maintained, documents housekeeping as required, and contacts Maintenance whenever equipment is not running properly. Completes preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned and assists Maintenance with repairs.
- Formulates new colors in the system using the fewest base colors as possible for simplicity and consistency from run to run.
- Supports press operators during set-up to expedite matching target colors to improve efficiency. Works with a sense of urgency when any color problems are brought to his attention to minimize machine downtime due to ink toning.
- Works proactively with the press schedule to avoid any potential press problems involving ink.
- Drives strict compliance with all Quality Control procedures to first make sure we are making the ink properly (“Spectrophotometer”), then to both assure consistency and limit our quality exposure throughout the run by providing enough ink to complete the run or ensuring that the ink being dispensed from the SPEC will match without being toned.
- Trains, guides, and assists Press Room Associates in proper and safe ink and solvent handling, and also ensures that daily, weekly, and monthly area housekeeping procedures are being completed and documented.
- Remove buckets containing press hazardous waste from the press room; carry them to hazardous waste totes in the ink room and pour contents into the correct tote (either surface or reverse inks).
- Labels all ink going to the Press Room and accurately accounts for all ink returned from the Press room, making sure it is properly labeled and processed.
- Conducts monthly ink inventory and keeps an accurate record of inks ordered and received.
- Supports the company’s emphasis on teamwork and cooperation to achieve our goals by performing other duties as assigned including working in other departments from time to time and helping with periodic cleanup issues.
- Generates improvement ideas and embraces improvement projects to better the business.
