Qualifications:
- Degree/Education: Graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.
- Certifications: (BLS) Basic Life Support. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience: Minimum one year experience as Certified Medical Assistant
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare examination rooms before patient arrival.
- Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Measure and document vital signs (temperature, respiration, pulse, weight, blood pressure, pulse oximeter reading).
- Obtain and record patient’s medical history, drug history, complaints, and allergies.
- Perform diagnostic procedures as ordered.
- Maintain examination room supplies and ensure routine maintenance.
- Complete lab and x-ray requisitions per clinic policies.
- Enter patient data into the computer at check-in and discharge.
- Maintain productivity levels comparable to peers.
- Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
- Follow aseptic techniques and infection control guidelines, including waste handling and universal precautions.
- Adhere to safety procedures and protocols in emergencies.
- Apply legal awareness in patient care and manage risks.
- Participate in Family Advocacy Program as directed (e.g., medical exams, documentation, and reporting).
- Respect patient rights and maintain professional responsibility.
- Pursue continuing education for professional growth.
- Complete required annual training (e.g., disaster training, infection control, harassment prevention, CBRNE).
- Engage in the command's Performance Improvement Program, identify care improvements, and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide in-service training to clinic staff and support government employees.
- Attend required meetings and contribute to discussions.
- Document patient care accurately and timely.
- Operate automated systems (JLV, HAIMS, MHS Genesis, CIS) and participate in PI/RM functions.
- Maintain DOD email and respond to communications.
- Delegate tasks effectively in clinical and team coordination.
- Ensure proper documentation of treatments and prepare required reports, using legible handwriting and approved abbreviations.
