Overview:
The purpose of this job is to provide technical guidance, coaching, counseling, and formal supervision to assigned staff in support of producing high quality, timely and cost-effective solutions to technical and business objectives. The incumbent supervises a work group of 4 to 8 engineers and technicians in a single or closely related fields of professional expertise. The incumbent is also assigned individual technical and business-related tasks in support of department goals. In addition to the administrative duties of supervising a work group, supervisory and personal assignments include performing design reviews and evaluating cost benefit analyses, approving work plans for capital additions, operations and maintenance work (as applicable) within the work group's areas of responsibility, evaluating personnel needs, and prioritizing work and resource assignments to meet department commitments.
Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, direct and provide guidance to 4-8 engineers and technicians. This position normally reports to a section or department head.
  • Organize and prioritize work group activities and assign/schedule work duties to meet completion dates. Specific activities include oversight of reliability improvement budgets, outage analysis, and power quality in area of responsibility.
  • Review, revise and communicate Department/Section/Group procedures in support of administrative and technical improvement initiatives. Responsible for the application of organizational policies.
  • Develop organizational talent and build expertise in areas required by the department.
  • Develop leadership skills and coordinate technical training aspects for self and group members.
  • Ensure the understanding and practice of company safety and industrial hygiene policies within the workgroup.

  • Section/Department on cross-functional technical and business improvement committees, working groups and task forces.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff. Interview and recommend candidates for employment or termination.
  • Complete individual technical and organizational assignments in support of department objectives including customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Support preparation and monitoring of the department budget including management/maintenance of analytical equipment in area of responsibility.
  • The incumbent is accountable for the technical quality of the group's output and is expected to continuously improve capabilities in this area. Specific activities include the evaluation and deployment of new technologies and line hardware and providing direction/oversight for reliability, load-balancing, and voltage control work in area of responsibility.
  • If applicable, in-person supervision of employees to ensure compliance with FLSA wage and hour issues as well as to monitor compliance with safety rules.
  • Physical presence in the office/on-site to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
  • May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

Qualifications:
1. A bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology from an ABET accredited college or university.
2. 4 years in an acceptable engineering discipline.
3. 7 years of experience in the area(s) of responsibility or five years’ experience with a Professional Engineers license.
4. Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communications and technical skills.
5. In-depth technical knowledge of electrical systems.
6. Proficient PC skills for performance of daily work activities.
