Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs. Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
- Provide support for individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, and memory care needs.
- Engage clients in recreational activities to promote social interaction and skill development.
- Monitor client behavior and report any changes or concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients, ensuring all areas are tidy and organized.
- Assist with heavy lifting as needed to support clients in mobility or repositioning.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including nurses and hospice care providers, to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
- Document client progress and any incidents accurately in accordance with organizational policies.
Skills
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism is preferred.
- Knowledge of memory care techniques and patient observation skills is beneficial.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting clients.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
- Compassionate demeanor with a commitment to providing high-quality care.
- Organizational skills to maintain cleanliness in the home or community setting.
- Previous experience in home care or community-based support services is a plus.
