Due to our constant growth, we are currently looking for a HSE Engineer - Commissioning and Qualification (C&Q) with 5 years of experience in an HSE role within the Lifescience/Biotech industry fitting the following mandatory skill-set and willing to work in New Brunswick, New Jersey, US.
The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee the safe execution of work by C&Q personnel in the field, ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations. The role also includes risk assessment preparation and implementation of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee and ensure the safe execution of C&Q activities on-site
• Develop and maintain risk assessments, job safety analyses (JSA), and safety procedures
• Implement and oversee Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, ensuring all required LOTO equipment (locks, signage, barriers, etc.) is available and correctly used
• Conduct safety inspections to verify compliance with safety regulations and company policies
• Collaborate with C&Q teams to integrate safety measures into daily operations
• Provide safety training and guidance to C&Q personnel as needed
• Report safety incidents and support root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Ensure compliance with local and international HSE standards and regulations
• Work closely with the Construction Manager to coordinate LOTO activities
Required Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in an HSE role within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or industrial sectors
• Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, job safety analysis (JSA), and incident investigation
• Experience with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety equipment
• Familiarity with international HSE standards and regulatory requirements (OSHA, ISO 45001, etc.)
• Strong communication and leadership skills to promote a safety-first culture
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineering and C&Q personnel
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), NEBOSH, or equivalent HSE certification
• Experience in large-scale, multisite projects
• Knowledge of hazardous energy control and high-risk work permits
