Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Telecommunications Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the global audio and video delivery systems, ensuring optimal broadcast and network operations. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in broadcast master control operations, network operations, and troubleshooting in telecommunications systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor end-to-end global audio and video delivery systems, including Dataminer Network Monitoring System, Kaleido IP Multiviewer, Telestream Sentry, Zixi Zenmaster Dashboard, SES 360 Portal, and Transport Stream Recorder.
- Report any audio and video outages or issues lasting 5 minutes or more, using the Division’s trouble-ticketing/tracking system and escalation procedures.
- Utilize software interfaces for troubleshooting and controlling system operations, including Synamedia Virtual DCMs, PESA Audio/Video Switcher, Evertz ST2110 Switching System, Zixi Live Video over IP delivery system, and more.
- Respond to operational anomalies from global locations, including USAGM contribution networks, transmitter sites, affiliates, and broadcast customers, and take appropriate actions to restore programming and resolve issues.
- Request satellite carrier plots from third-party uplink providers regarding low satellite carrier levels, interference, and jamming attempts.
- Maintain the NCC Daily Log, ensuring accurate and complete entries of all operational and maintenance activities.
- Communicate significant issues during shift changes, including audio and video outages, program delivery problems, and quality issues.
- Replace defective equipment such as encoders, decoders, servers, PCs, monitors, and other broadcast equipment.
- Assist with the installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of new equipment and systems.
- Apply terminations/connectors to various types of network cables (Ethernet, coaxial, twisted pair, optical fiber) used in SDI video, AES audio, and IP signals.
- Operate and maintain digital telecommunications systems for encoding and transmission of radio, television, and IP data signals.
- Understand and manage satellite distribution uplink and downlink beams, commercial frequency spectrums, RF and IF bands, power levels, and related satellite distribution technologies.
- Provide excellent oral and written communication to management, team members, clients, and third-party providers.
- Lift electronic equipment (up to 80 pounds) and work in varied environments such as above drop ceilings, beneath raised floors, and with electrical systems up to 208 volts.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Mandatory: 3-5 years of experience in broadcast master control operations and network operations.
- Familiarity with service management and workflow ticketing tools such as Ivanti, Remedy, or ServiceNOW.
- Experience with network monitoring systems like PRTG, Solarwinds.
- Proficiency with broadcast network monitoring systems, including Dataminer, Zixi Zen Master, and Telestream Sentry.
- In-depth knowledge of broadcast operations center environments (television/radio/network operations center).
- Technical expertise in SDI video, AES audio, IP digital systems, encoding, multiplexing, and transport stream protocols.
- Knowledge of satellite distribution, RF/IF bands, power levels, and related technologies.
- Ability to operate and maintain video/audio switching systems and troubleshoot equipment failures.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, for reporting and collaboration across various teams and third-party providers.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or a degree in a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with broadcast and network systems in a telecommunications environment is a must.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
- Comfort with working in elevated or confined spaces, such as above drop ceilings or beneath raised floors.
- Ability to handle and use tools and equipment for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with advanced broadcast technologies and systems, including virtual DCMs, video over IP delivery systems, and satellite uplink/downlink processes.
- Certifications in network or telecommunications systems are a plus.

Pay: $89,289.00 - $98,585.00 per year
