About the Role:We’re hiring one dedicated in-person tutor to provide small-group Biology instruction to Spanish-speaking high school students at Bushwick Leaders High School for Academic Excellence. As a bilingual tutor, you’ll partner with teachers in the classroom to deliver targeted, culturally responsive instruction that helps students strengthen their science skills, build confidence, and achieve academic success.
What You’ll Do:
- Work closely with teachers and school leaders to provide personalized small-group Biology support
- Assist students in understanding key high school Biology concepts, reinforcing their learning through interactive instruction
- Foster a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages curiosity and academic growth
- Serve as a push-in classroom tutor, collaborating with educators to provide targeted academic assistance
- Support Spanish-speaking students by breaking down complex topics in both English and Spanish
Schedule:
- Days: Fourdays per week (Monday–Friday, based on candidate’s preference)
- Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Duration: March 17– June 3, 2025 (excluding holidays and school conferences)
- Key Dates Off:
- March 21: High School 6-12 Parent-Teacher Conferences (3-hour early dismissal)
- April 14 – April 18: Spring Recess
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: Prior experience tutoring or teaching high school Biology
- Bilingual Skills: Fluent in English and Spanish, with the ability to provide academic support in both languages
- Subject Proficiency: Strong knowledge of high school-level Biology concepts
- Team Player: Collaborative spirit and a desire to work closely with teachers and students
- Communication: Strong verbal and written skills to effectively engage with diverse learners
- Passion: A commitment to educational equity and social justice for minority and low-income students
- Availability: Must be able to work the specified schedule consistently
