The Medical Center, part of the VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5), offers a comprehensive range of services, including internal medicine, ambulatory surgery, audiology and speech pathology, dental, nursing home, nutrition, podiatry, prosthetics, women's health, mental health and rehabilitation medicine. Duties: The Chief of Surgical Services oversees all aspects of the Surgical Service Department at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, including quality assurance, quality improvement, budget and fiscal management, human resource management, strategic planning, and planning development. The Chief of Surgery assures that the clinical and administrative functions are integrated to provide optimum utilization of available resources.

Major Duties:
- Participate in the operating room commensurate with technical abilities.
- Provides quality clinical care and services with regard to customer satisfaction.
- Provides comprehensive care of ambulatory patients in the outpatient clinic, inpatients, and patients presenting to the Emergency Department by performing clinical examinations, managing new patient consultations, diagnosis, and treatments.
- Ensures completion of encounters and operative notes.
- Assumes the responsibility for the overall management of the Martinsburg VA Surgical Service and ensures the service functions as an integrated care delivery care system, providing patient-focused surgical services for veterans.
- Completes medical record documentation and ensures subordinates complete medical records within a timely manner and in accordance with current VA guidelines.
- Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Preferred Experience: 3 years related supervisory experience and Board Certification
