Hospitalist Department Details
- Patient Volume: avg 34,000 encounters per year
- EMR System: Epic
- Shift Details: 12-hour shifts
- Trauma Designation: Level 3 trauma center
- Pay and Schedule Structure :
- The director will only be required to work 7 clinical shifts (84 hours) per month but is welcome to work more clinically if they so choose.
- Clinical Shifts are paid at the standard full-time rate of $160/hr.
- It is anticipated that the director will average 36 hours per month of administrative work/duties.
- Additional Pay:
- The director is given a flat $7000/month to compensate for admin duties.
- Up to $30,000/ year in' quality bonuses’ – paid out quarterly
- Call and Nights:
- Call coverage is $200. All night shifts are provided with a $300 night differential.
- Directorship Stipend -$7000/month
- Salary: at a minimum ( 84 clinical hours) the Director can expect to make $275,280 per year, but it is very feasible the total annual income may exceed $450,000.

- Patient Care and Oversight:
- Provide direct inpatient care, including evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments for adult patients, ensuring continuity and quality throughout their hospital stay.
- Oversee ICU patient management, including ventilator care and other critical interventions, ensuring adherence to established protocols and best practices.
- Supervise and collaborate with hospitalists and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to optimize patient outcomes.
- Program Leadership and Development:
- Lead and manage the hospitalist team, ensuring proper staffing, training, and development.
- Develop and implement evidence-based protocols, policies, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
- Work closely with hospital administration to align department goals with organizational objectives.
- Team Collaboration and Mentorship:
- Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration among hospitalists, specialists, nursing staff, and other stakeholders.
- Serve as a mentor and resource for team members, providing guidance on complex cases and professional development.
- Conduct regular team meetings to review outcomes, discuss challenges, and ensure alignment with clinical and operational goals.
- Quality and Compliance:
- Monitor and ensure compliance with hospital standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in quality assurance programs, including case reviews, mortality/morbidity conferences, and clinical audits.
- Analyze department performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and implement necessary changes.
- Administrative Duties:
- Oversee scheduling and coverage for the hospitalist team, ensuring adequate staffing for all shifts.
- Manage team performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to drive improvement.
- Collaborate on budget planning and resource allocation for the department.
Position Requirements
Education
- Medical Degree- MD or DO from a USA accredited medical school.
- Board Certified in IM, FP, and/or Med/Peds
- ACLS and BLS required
- No pediatrics required
- No procedures required
- Prior experience in leadership roles in hospital medicine setting.
- USA Citizen or Appropriate work authorization
