Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Pulmonary and Critical Care specialist to join our growing and highly-regarded clinical programs. The Vanderbilt Lung Institute, an integrated patient care center, evaluates over 84,000 patients annually and is currently expanding within the Nashville Metropolitan Area. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide both inpatient and outpatient care while advancing the field of pulmonary medicine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care : Devote at least 80% effort to delivering high-quality clinical care in both critical care and pulmonary medicine, including the education of trainees.
  • Academic and Clinical Tracks : Clinician Educators (CEs) dedicate 20% of their effort to academic endeavors such as education, research, and administrative service, while those in the Clinical Practice (CP) track focus entirely on clinical care.
  • Inpatient Duties : Provide care at Vanderbilt University Hospital, covering the MICU, Pulmonary Consult Service, or the inpatient Pulmonary Service. Inpatient responsibility typically involves 12-16 weeks per year, with no in-house call responsibilities.
  • Outpatient Duties : Conduct 5-7 half days in clinic per week, adjustable based on academic responsibilities, at one of the Vanderbilt Lung Institute clinics.
  • Academic Involvement : Participate in Division and Department academic and clinical programs, develop a focused area of expertise, with opportunities to engage in multi-investigator research studies, and contribute to teaching and mentoring students, residents, and fellows (for those in the CE track). Additionally, our academic clinicians are also expected to develop a regional and national reputation.

Qualifications

  • Board Certification/Eligibility : BC/BE in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care.
  • Desirable Skills : BC/BE in Sleep Medicine and experience with ECMO and advanced pulmonary therapies are highly desirable. Major areas of need also include interstitial lung disease and general pulmonology.
