Job Description:
The University of Toledo Physicians is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma Surgery at the University of Toledo Medical Center; an established level 2 trauma center. The APP will work autonomously and in collaboration with the Physicians within a Standard Care Arrangement (SCA) or Supervision Agreement (SA) to diagnose, treat, and manage individuals or populations of patients. APPs can serve as healthcare resource providers, patient advocates and interdisciplinary consultants with the Health Care Team.
The schedule consists of three days a week, 12-hour shifts, occasional night coverage, split holidays, and 1 weekend per month based on schedule rotations and the needs of the department.

There is much to see and do as it is home to 19 large metro parks with over 120 miles to bike, walk, and hike along the trails. Downtown Toledo is the hub for entertainment, as you can visit the Toledo Museum of Art, the Toledo Zoo, and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra! The city also partakes in numerous sports activities, from minor league baseball, golfing clubs, and hockey, which can all be found within a few miles of each other.
Toledo continues to be one of the most affordable places to live in the region. There are many different living options, from lofts in downtown to comfortable suburbs and villas. Toledo holds many high-quality schools and universities open for parents and students.

Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates clinical competency and accountability in care for patients as identified in unit's Scope of Care
- Maintains competency in performing clinical practice for patients in stages of the life cycle appropriate to specialty
- Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies
- Writes prescriptions; initiates requests and/or performs routine laboratory, radiology, and diagnostic studies as indicated
- Acts as mentor/role model for staff as well as a resource person for nurses, medical assistants, and/or ancillary staff
- Conducts/participates in divisional/institutional research as opportunities arise
- Practices within normal standards specific to the specialty of Physician Assistants and as identified in the Revised Code and Ohio Administrative Code
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master’s degree in an appropriate field
- License and/or Certification:
- State of Ohio Licensure-Physician Assistant
- National Certification as a Physician Assistant
- BLS Certified
- COA from the Ohio State Medical Board to practice as a Physician Assistant
- Eligible to obtain and/or maintain a Certificate to Prescribe/DEA
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work nights. This schedule consists of 7 on 7 off
- Tolerate a busy environment that requires constant interaction with patients, employees, students, residents, and physicians.
- Requires prolonged walking and standing. Occasional lifting of patients sometimes over 200 pounds. Occasional carrying of items weighing up to 30 pounds is required.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range and manual dexterity.
- Requires the ability to operate various types of office equipment, including but not limited to: personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment on a daily basis.
