What are the responsibilities and job description for the AIX Administrator position at Pragma Recruits?
We are seeking an AIX Administrator to provide expertise to our client in support of their critical systems.
As an AIX Administrator assist in all AIX operating system areas. These specific responsibilities are listed below.
This person would be responsible for the day-to-day administration of all Unix based servers. This includes monitoring the trouble ticket queue, system troubleshooting, hardware and software system changes, scripting, patching, system performance monitoring, system sizing, system integration, upgrade implementation, and hardware diagnostics, application support. This person would work with application administrators to help troubleshoot and fine-tune applications and if required guide application administrators in best practices related to using the underlying UNIX infrastructure Documentation.
Project Specific Responsibilities:
- Install and configure AIX operating systems and servers and support AIX OS to run various software applications.
- Plan, install, test, and implement upgrades and patches to AIX OS.
- Plan and coordinate the installation, testing, and maintenance of AIX systems related hardware.
- Maintain technical artifacts of AIX hardware and software including user and operator manuals.
- Develop SOPs to manage AIX security and operations.
- Plan and implement performance improvement initiatives for AIX system environment.
- Collaborating with network administrators to guarantee network connectivity for AIX systems.
- Implement security measures such as security patches, firewalls, and security policies to protect systems against threats.
- Implement regular backup strategies and ensure data can be restored in case of system failure.
- Analyze software and hardware environments to determine any system defects and resolve system issues in a timely manner.
- Manage data backups and retrieval techniques in case of failure, redundancy, etc.
- Ensure performance maintenance routines are carried out for continuous system availability.
- Assess system architecture and make recommendations as required.
- Work with managers and architects to implement disaster recovery procedures for continuity of operations.
- Provide operational metrics to support continuous improvement and SLAs/SLOs.
- Regularly solicit feedback and Hosted Applications requirements from customers and end-users
Required Skills:
- This contract supports systems that require 24x7x365 uptime. Candidates must be willing and able to meet recall requirements, including participation in a rotational on-call schedule.
- Telework: Candidates must reside within a commutable distance and be available to work onsite at the customer's discretion.
- This individual must be able to accommodate a rotational on-call schedule as needed.
- IBM Certified System Administrator - AIX is Required
- Minimum of 8 years of IT experience, including 5 years as an AIX administrator.
Other Skills:
- Deep understanding of technologies related to infrastructure engineering.
- In-depth technical solution knowledge, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and problem solving.
- Experience in IBM Intel-base, IBM Power 8; Power System E880C
- Experience in PowerShell, Bash, Perl, or Python to automate complex manual tasks.
- LDAP
- Familiarity with Linux-based and Windows-based OS is a Plus
- Collaboration skills to work in a multidisciplinary team, promote cooperation, and synergy among different departments and stakeholders.
Pay and Benefits:
- $95,000 W2 with benefits for a long-term contract
- No relocation assistance

- Hybrid role located either in Rochester, NY or Orange, CT
- 3 days in office
