We’re excited to announce that we are looking for compassionate and skilled PACU Travel Registered Nurses (RNs) to be part of our community at Gallup Indian Medical Center in beautiful Gallup, NM! This is a fantastic Long Term Contract Travel RN position at our IHS facility, where you can make a real difference.
Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC) is a welcoming 99-bed hospital located on the Navajo Reservation. We offer a variety of clinical specialties, including Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Anesthesia, OB/GYN, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Radiology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, and Urology. Our team handles one of the largest patient volumes in the Indian Health Service, with around 250,000 outpatient visits and 5,800 inpatient admissions each year. Plus, GIMC has the largest staff among all Navajo Area IHS facilities, so you’ll be joining a great team!
**What We Offer:**
- A long-term contract ranging from 13 weeks to up to 1 year, with options to extend
- 8-hour shifts with a call rotation
- Experience at a Level III Trauma center
- The flexibility to work with any US nursing license
- Preferred certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS
- Required IV skills
- At least 2 years of experience as a PACU RN
- A Registered Nurse (RN) with an ADN or BSN preferred
- Travel experience is a plus!
- Previous IHS experience is helpful but not required
**Your Role:**
As a PACU nurse at GIMC, you'll do incredible work in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, providing care after a range of surgeries, including general surgery, orthopedics, and OB/GYN procedures. With over 2,400 cases handled annually, your focus on patient recovery and trauma care will be invaluable.
**Your Responsibilities Include:**
- Giving top-notch post-anesthesia care to patients
- Conducting thorough health assessments and reviewing medical histories
- Using AORN standards to create and adjust individualized care plans
- Starting treatments and resuscitative measures as needed
- Administering medications and documenting patient care
- Being attentive to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients
- Operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment
- Collaborating with surgical teams and multidisciplinary providers
- Supporting patients as they recover from anesthesia
You'll also have opportunities to rotate through different areas, including pre-operative counseling, prep surgery, recovery, and local procedures!

Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in PACU nursing in an Acute Care Setting
- Graduate from a National League of Nursing accredited program
- A Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or Diploma in nursing is required
- Active BLS and ACLS certifications
- A current, unrestricted RN license in any state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or US territory
- Friendly and effective communication skills
- Ability to work well both independently and as a part of a team
- Flexibility to adapt to varying shifts and schedules
- U.S. citizenship and willingness to pass a federal background check
