JOB TITLE : Director of Operations
REPORTS TO : Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations, CSBO
POSITION OVERVIEW :
The Director of Operations is a district-level administrator responsible for directing and managing the district's non-academic operations. The Director of Operations is responsible for maintenance operations, custodial operations, food service programming, and transportation operations across the district. The Director of Operations has a responsibility to : provide students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive, and functional; ensure safe and efficient operation of transportation; plan and implement a food service program that meets the regulatory and nutritional requirements for students, promotes the development of sound nutritional practices, and maintains a safe and sanitary environment.The priorities of the Director of Operations include but are not limited to, implementing and maintaining student programs and services aligned with district and state goals; providing various forms of support; serving as a resource to school personnel, the Board, and other districts; and ensuring program objectives are achieved within the budget guidelines.

- Maintain schools and all other district physical plants in a condition of operating excellence so that facilities are fully utilized for their educational purpose.
Ability to manage and budget personnel to ensure optimal maintenance and cleaning of all buildings
Ability to manage, plan, and prepare specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement for submission of bidsAbility to receive and process work orders for repair and maintenance of buildings and groundsAdminister the district's food service program to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, policies, and nutritional requirements related to food service.Ability to ensure that safety measures are in place to protect food, supplies, and equipment in kitchens throughout the district
Ability to create, monitor, and submit all local, state, and federal, claims, including, but not limited to, the National School Lunch Program and Community Eligibility ProgramEnforce transportation safety standards to conform with state, federal, and insurance regulations and maintain a program of preventive safetyAbility to maintain vehicle registration, maintenance, and repair schedules to ensure that vehicles are safe and operable at all times
Ability to monitor the credentials, and training of district drivers to ensure exemplary operation of district vehiclesRESPONSIBILITIES :
Custodial and Maintenance Operations :
Conduct frequent facility walkthroughs of all district facilitiesAppropriately operates and supervises the appropriate operation of all equipment and machinery, as necessaryReviews bids for conformity to contract requirements and determines acceptable bids and negotiates contracts on behalf of the district after collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent of Finance & Operations, CSBOResearch and collect information for comparison and selection of buildings and grounds projectsApproves amendments to or extensions of contractsCoordinates schedules of the custodial and maintenance department in accordance with the school calendarHires, supervises, trains, and evaluates personnel assigned to the Custodial and Maintenance Department and makes recommendations about staff placement transfer, retention, and dismissalDetermine work schedule for custodial and maintenance workerPlan training, in-service, and certification for custodial and maintenance staffFood Service Operations :
Direct the district's food service program, including the diversion of commodities through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)Communicate and direct the food service budget and approve purchase orders and bids following budgetary limitationsDirect the planning of inventory and stock control programs for equipment, materials, and suppliesHires, supervises, trains, and evaluates personnel assigned to the Food Service Department and makes recommendations about staff placement transfer, retention, and dismissalCollaborate with the Food Service Manager to determine work schedule for food service workersPlan training, in-service, and certification for food service staffTransportation Operations :
Maintain current records, spare keys, contracts, certificates of insurance, licensure, background checks, and validations for all district-owned vehiclesDirect the coordination of transportation for extracurricular activities and special programsMaintain schedule of use, routes of all district vehiclesRespond to after-hours emergency calls involving district-owned vehiclesCommunicate the district's student discipline policies regarding expected student behavior when they are passengers on a district-owned vehicleEnforce Board of Education policy with regard to district-owned vehiclesDirect budget for use, maintenance, repair, registration, etc. for district-owned vehiclesDirect the performance of transportation drills and regular safety checks of district-owned vehiclesMonitor hazardous conditions and communicate the feasibility of the use of district-owned vehiclesAttend and make presentations at in-district and out-of-district to discuss innovations and areas of concern in transportationPlan training, in-service, and certification for transportation staffPerform other duties as assigned.REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES :

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or GED is requiredSome college or technical training preferredAt least 5 years of supervisory experience requiredLicenses and / or experience in asbestos, electrical, plumbing, heating & air conditioning ventilation (HVAC), and abatement are highly preferredValid Illinois Driver's License, CDL endorsement preferredHeavy lifting and maximum physical exertion may be requiredTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Twelve months.Exempt.SALARY :
