What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Education Liaison position at Prairie Island Indian Community?
SUMMARY:
The High School Education Liaison is responsible for monitoring all Native American high school students in the Red Wing School District #256.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet business needs.
- Monitor all high school students in Red Wing School District #256 which will include Tower view during school hours and after school tutoring if needed
- Responsible for monitoring daily attendance and academic progress of all students enrolled with the Prairie Island Indian Community and report to parents or guardians of students, both verbally and written
- Work with the Red Wing and Prairie Island Indian Community Family Services programs to respond to truancies and individual education plans for community youth
- Work with the enrolled students of Prairie Island Indian Community on any referrals or requests which will benefit the student’s academics
- Assist in the development of alternative education programs for the enrolled students of the Prairie Island Indian Community to achieve grade goals and objectives at the end of each quarter or semester
- Oversee tutoring classes and tutoring needs for the enrolled students of the Prairie Island Indian Community during and after school
- Assist with the school district with any needs for students on transportation with the local bus service
- Prepare and provide written reports to the Prairie Island Education Director on a monthly basis
- Work with the Dakota Language instructor
- Assist high school students with post-secondary education as requested
- Assist with other Community Educator Liaisons when directed for other educational needs
- Communicate with the Education Director on a weekly basis with occurring issues or school policies that may affect any of the students
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
- Teaching license or minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in student counseling, preferably high school
- Good record keeping skills, journal record keeping.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
- Ability to work well within the existing team and government structure
- Sensitive to Native American Culture
- Must pass drug screen (UA) and a federal criminal background check in compliance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act and the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:*
- Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time with occasional amounts of standing or walking
REQUIRED TRAINING:
- Effectively Handling Harassment training
- Any position-related training as determined by department manager
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed primarily in an office setting, but may include occasional outdoor activities
