What are the responsibilities and job description for the Internal Auditor position at Prairie Island Indian Community?

SUMMARY:
The Internal Auditor position is responsible for performing internal audit work throughout the organization to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, as well as normal business practices. The complexity and size of audit assignments will vary significantly. Decisions regarding the scope of work performed, nature of testing completed and the reporting disposition of results may be delegated to this position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

- Advance the strategic goals and objectives through departmental initiatives in alignment with PIIC’s Vision, Mission, and Values
- Demonstrate proficiency in applying audit principles, skills, and techniques
- Consistently document relevant facts and information that support the work performed and conclusions drawn
- Communicate audit results, both verbally and in writing
- Review and analyze documentation, reports, and data obtained. Conduct observations and interviews if needed
- May perform post-audit follow-up to ensure that appropriate action is taken on reported audit findings
- Prepare paper documentation reflecting the results of the work performed during the audit
- Be able to complete work with limited instructions, yet know when to seek guidance when circumstances warrant
- Performs Title 31 reviews
- Interact effectively with a wide variety of people in a wide variety of settings
- Exhibit creativity and innovation in recommending improvements to departmental audit practices and processes
- Engage in professional development activities, including completion of a professional audit certification program
- Become proficient with the PIIC Minimum Internal Control Standards
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Internal Auditing or relevant experience and demonstrated proficiency
- Possess a working knowledge of Native American Casinos, tribal governments, general business processes, policies and procedures, governance practices and regulatory obligations
- Demonstrate effective time management skills
- Must be comfortable working in ambiguous and/or stressful situations. Flexibility, the ability to adapt to changing priorities quickly, and the capacity to handle multiple tasks are required.
- Proven ability to exercise extreme discretion and good judgment
- Analytical, problem solving, and creative thought processes are essential
- Irregular working hours may be required occasionally to complete work assignments.
- Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
- Ability to work well within the existing team and government structure
- Sensitive to Native American Culture
- Must pass drug screen (UA) and a criminal background check
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability
Preferred
- Associates degree in accounting and/or three (3) years of related experience
- Internal Audit Management software and data extraction software
- CIA certification is highly desired
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:*
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time with occasional amounts of standing or walking
- Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
REQUIRED TRAINING:
- Effectively Handling Harassment training
- Any position-related training as determined by department manager
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed primarily in an office setting, but may include occasional outdoor activities
