What are the responsibilities and job description for the Personal Trainer/Wellness Coach position at Prairie Island Indian Community?

SUMMARY:
The Physical Trainer/Wellness Coach works closely with clients/participants to help them realize their personal best through support of positive lifestyle changes by aligning behaviors with the client’s personal wellness goals and vision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Personal Training:
• Meet with each new member, provide orientation to the Fitness Center, fitness assessments, instruction in using the fitness equipment, and determine if the client feels comfortable exercising independently
• Assure appropriate medical clearance and paper work completion of each eligible member
• Work on fitness center area/floor overseeing all activities and ensuring that all members are exercising in a safe and effective manner
• Ensure the fitness center area/floor is clean and safe at all times. Recommend equipment repair or replacement if damaged or not functioning safely or properly
• Resolve any member issues through effective customer service skills, take appropriate action where indicated and report any problems to the Family Health Director
• Respond in emergency situations, notifying the appropriate authorities when needed
• Develop, implement, and manage individual and group exercise/activity programs based on the member’s/participant’s wellness goals.
• Develop group exercise classes designed to enhance a healthy lifestyle
• Actively engage with members regarding their fitness programs and offer help by demonstrating various exercises to help clients improve their exercise techniques
• Maintain records of client appointments, notes and workout dates in client folder
• Develop, assist, and manage youth fitness activities
• Maintain a working knowledge of basic theoretical concepts of fitness.
• Maintain certification and memberships in professional organization
• Must be flexible to assist with activities, community events, and coverage of the Fitness Center
Wellness Coaching:
• Provide wellness coaching in-person, virtually, or telephonically to clients
• Assess client’s needs utilizing a holistic point of view
• Demonstrate the ability to link a client to community and health system resources as appropriate
• Refer clients to ancillary providers to achieve appropriate level of service when necessary
• Establish and maintain record keeping and filing systems enabling tracking of outcomes
• Promote wellness in the community and provide education to interested clients/participants
• Implement employee health and wellness programs utilizing incentive programs.
• Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• CPR/First Aid Certified
• Fitness/Personal Trainer Certification
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
• Strong interpersonal skills to supervise and motivate clients.
• Able to manage multiple priorities in an efficient manner
• Ability to demonstrate verbal and/or physically the proper use of the equipment
• Good organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
• Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
• Willing to work collaboratively with the Health Department team.
• Ability to demonstrate physically and/or provide verbal instruction for proper use of equipment
• Attuned to the values and practices of Native American communities
• Must pass drug screen (UA) and a federal criminal background check in compliance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act and the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act
• Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
PREFERRED:
• Wellness Coach Certification
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to walk, stand or sit for long periods throughout the day
REQUIRED TRAINING:
• Effectively Handling Harassment training
• HIPAA training
• Any position-related training as determined by department manager
• Advanced training opportunities available with demonstrated experience in nursing
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
• Work is performed primarily indoors and may include exposure to extreme weather conditions
