POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Informatics Specialist acts as a liaison between business workflows and information technology in the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of business systems involved with the electronic health record (EHR) and associated technologies. This role will involve optimizing and supporting the billing processes for both inpatient and outpatient services within our healthcare organization. The Business Informatics Specialist is responsible for workflow transformation, assessment, planning, design, re-design, validation, testing, evaluation, end-user training, implementation support, optimization, and adoption of business applications and processes. Being an advocate and a change agent is key to ensuring the maximum benefit of the EHR and its associated technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Uses effective communication for changes in standards, practice, or functionality and consistently closes the loop. Provides support and maintenance for hospital billing (HB) and professional billing (PB) systems. Assists with the full lifecycle of billing operations including charge capture, coding, claims generation, and resolution of billing discrepancies or denials. Collaborate with IT teams to configure and maintain EHR to align with regulatory requirements, payer rules, and institutional policies. Monitor and verify the accuracy and completeness of data within the EHR to ensure billing records are precise, compliant, and reflective of the services provided. Work with the analytics team to report on billing trends, identify opportunities for process improvements, and work with cross-functional teams to optimize the revenue cycle. The Business Informatics Specialist will investigate and resolve issues related to EHR billing, working with clinical and operational teams to address discrepancies and system bugs. This individual will provide training and ongoing support to staff on EHR billing functionality and best practices, ensuring adherence to billing standards and procedures.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Health Informatics, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
3 years of experience in hospital and professional billing, with a focus on Epic Resolute Hospital Billing (HB) and Professional Billing (PB).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Epic Resolute Certification (Hospital Billing or Professional Billing) preferred. Certification in healthcare billing (e.g., CPC, CCS-P) is a plus.
